Vietnammese Court Overturns Death Sentence for Nigerian Drug Trafficker

A Vietnam court yesterday August 17th reduced a death sentence previously handed to 33 year old Nigerian man, Ejiogu Benjamin Ikechukwu, pictured above, for bringing methamphetamine into Vietnam, to life imprisonment.

Ejiogu Benjamin Ikechukwu was in June 2012 apprehended with 3.3 kilograms of the banned drug concealed in metal tubes and a laptop charger in his luggage as he flew to Tan Son Nhat in Vietnam.

I had to answer this same question way back November 1962. I was in an interview with a Minister and some prominent Nigerians during my last year in secondary school. Somebody asked me the same question. First of all, I corrected the way it was spelt. 53 years after, I am glad answering the same question. The truth is, I hail from here – Niger State. My parents are from between Wushishi and this town (Minna). My grand-parents travelled to settle down here. So I think that says it all. But above all, there is nothing wrong from being from any part of the country but the truth is, I hail from Niger state. My parents and my great grand parents moved from somewhere and settled down here in Niger state.

The Sultan yesterday backed President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption battle, recommending jail for treasury looters.

To Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, treasury plunderers do not deserve mercy. They should be tried and jailed, the Sokoto monarch said.

Anti-corruption war begins • ICPC seizes 24 property from three civil servants

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offences Tribunal has commenced a clampdown on very wealthy civil servants.

Already, the agency has seized 24 property and several cars from three civil servants with one of them having 18 property.

A document obtained from the Office of the Chairman of the ICPC, Mr. Ekpo Nta, with the title ‘Notice of Seizure of Movable and Immovable Properties Pursuant to Section 45 (4) a – (b) of the Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Ac 2000, revealed that the commission seized the property from three officials of the Ministry of Niger Delta.

Fire guts Christ Embassy church in Lagos

An early morning fire has razed a section of the Christ Embassy Church, Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos State, destroying property said to be worth millions of naira.

The fire, which reportedly lasted for about two hours on Wednesday, was said to have affected four 40-feet containers, reportedly being used as storage facilities by the church.

The fire, which was said to have started at about 4am, was caused by a burning heap of refuse, which later engulfed the containers near an uncompleted building on the church premises.

Woman runs marathon without a tampon to encourage others to be proud of their period

26-year old Kiran Gandhi chose to let her period flow during the London Marathon to raise awareness about people who have no access to feminine products and to encourage period pride.

Initially Kiran and her two best friends were only running to raise £3,800 ($6,000) for Breast Cancer Care but as fate would have it, the day before the marathon, nature called.

The brave young drummer and Harvard graduate made the decision to do without a tampon for 26 miles and to rather run comfortably and freely.

“To me, period-shaming is when you – as someone who is experiencing the bleeding – have to make somebody else comfortable before yourself,” said Kiran

While many understand her reasoning, others think she is “disgusting” for doing it.
