Former Governor of Akwa Ibom State and Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio has denied owning any property in Dubai, United Arab Emirate or any other foreign country.

Akpabio in a statement on Friday by his his media assistant, Anietie Ekong, challenged the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to seize any money found in a foreign bank account bearing his name.

IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu Denied Bail Because 'He Is A Threat To National Security'

                           

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has been denied bail by a Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja.

Justice John Tosho on Friday, ruled that Kanu was a threat to national security, and as such, his bail application would be denied.

Artist shot by police denied treatment in hospitals

  

An artist, Smart Owie, shot by police during the demolition of the Artistes Village at the National Theatre, Lagos, said he was being denied treatment by hospitals because he had no police report.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Owie was shot in his right leg on Jan. 23 during the demolition of some structures at the village believed to be illegal.

Israel PM accuses UN's chief Ban Ki-moon of 'encouraging terror'

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused the UN chief of "encouraging terror" after Ban Ki-moon spoke of Palestinian frustration at Israel's occupation and said it was natural to resist.

"The comments of the UN Secretary General encourage terror," Netanyahu said in a statement. "There is no justification for terror."

Earlier, Ban told the UN Security Council of the "profound sense of alienation and despair driving some Palestinians -- especially young people" in the upsurge of attacks on Israelis since the start of October.

"Palestinian frustration is growing under the weight of a half century of occupation and the paralysis of the peace process," he said.

Kehinde Olatubosun, 56, from Ibadan, Oyo State, was arrested on Saturday night along with 18 other drug addicts at a joint in Ipodo, Ikeja.

PremiumTimes reports that a team of Rapid Response Squad Decoy had on Monday night traced a stolen phone to the joint, leading to the arrest of a three-man gang mobile phone thieves, three hard drug peddlers and 13 drug addicts, the police said in a statement on Sunday.

HPV (human papillomavirus)-16 is spread by skin-to-skin contact, sex. It is thought that performing oral sex is the most likely way the HPV virus - usually associated with cervical cancer - is spread to
the mouth.

PHOTOS: Celine Dion Jets To Montreal For Husband’s Funeral

                        

Celine Dion has been seen for the first time since the January 14 death of her 73-year-old husband René Angélil. The 47-year-old singer looked pale as she got hugs from friends before boarding a private jet in Las Vegas with her three children in tow.

This sighting comes just two days before Angélil's funeral, which will be held at the Notre Dame Basilica in Montreal. The church is also where the couple had a lavish wedding in 1994.

Dion isn't only grieving over the passing of her husband. Her bother also died this month. On January 16, just two days after René died from throat cancer, her brother Daniel Dion lost his battle at aged 59 with brain, tongue and throat cancer. See more photos below.

Jonathan becomes first African leader to bag Martin Luther King’s awards



Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan was Thursday (January 14th) honoured by the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. He was awarded with the Presidential Award in recognition of his leadership in advancing human rights, social justice and the fight for universal freedom.

The SCLC, founded by the late American Civil Right leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, in January 1957 is currently led by Dr. Charles Steele Jr.

Man kills three-year-old son to continue in relationship



A 22-year-old father has killed his three-year-old son, Brendan Creato, because he felt the child was an impediment to his relationship with a teenage girlfriend, prosecutors say.

ABC7NY news reports that those details came during the arraignment of David “D.J.” Creato Jr, the father of the boy on Tuesday.

Lovers drown during romantic rendezvous by river in Delta

 

The bodies of two young lovers who drowned in Ekpan River,Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State were recovered.
Divers, who were contracted by the communities’ leadership, removed the decomposing bodies of the couple, identified simply Kess and Onoriode, from the river at 1 pm.They were buried beside each other at the spot from where they jumped into the river.

Fugitive Donald "Chip" Pugh sent the Lima Police Department a private message with a picture to replace the mugshot authorities had released.

Pugh, from Ohio, wrote: "Here is a better photo, that one is terrible."

Chinese Hospital Demolished With Patient Still Inside

   

Workers partially demolished a Chinese hospital with several doctors and a patient still inside, media reported Saturday, burying bodies stored in its morgue under rubble and prompting an investigation.

Around 20 people dressed in military fatigues on Thursday destroyed part of Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, Huiji district, in the capital of central Henan province, according to the public television channel CCTV.

Policeman’s widow commits suicide


One month after losing her husband, the widow of a policeman, Mrs Philomena Asuquo, has committed suicide in Lagos.

The incident occurred at the Police Barracks on Sagamu Road in Ikorodu on New Year’s Eve.

The late Mrs Asuquo, whose late husband, Inspector Uwem Asuquo was yet to be buried, was said to have drunk sniper, an insecticide, out of frustration.

Man arrested for raping five-year-old boy



The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old man, Ganiu Amusa, for allegedly raping a five-year-old boy, Thompson (pseudonym), in the Alakuko area of the state.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Amusa was arrested on Sunday in his rented apartment on Hanson Street by the Alakuko Police Division.

Inside Nigeria’s booming stolen phones trade



When Gbolahan Oke, the Managing Director of a prominent construction company in Opebi, Lagos, bought his brand new BlackBerry Passport in October, the thought of keeping it out of the reach of his employees never crossed his mind.

It was not until one morning, three weeks ago, that he realised that he should have taken greater care. Oke stepped out of his office briefly and returned to find his N130,000 ($650) smartphone gone.

The culprit was his 35-year-old office janitor with over five years under the employ of Oke. Only after the invitation of policemen did she own up to the theft. The janitor, whose identity Oke wished to keep private, confessed that she sold the phone for N25,000 ($125) at Computer Village, Nigeria’s busiest commercial hub for information technology.

Enugu’s stepmother’s killer blames hemp


A 40-year-old man, Friday Anyim, who killed his father’s wife in Enugu, has blamed the act on hemp, which he smoked regularly.

The incident occurred on December 27 in Umuenem Ezinesi Oduma, a community in the Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Banks to lose N100b revenue as zero COT begins
