Defeated senators, Reps move property from National Assembly

Senators and House of Representatives members who failed in their re-election bids yesterday started moving their personal effects out of the National Assembly complex.

The development came less that about one month to the proclamation of the eight National Assembly.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders said yesterday that the hate campaign initiated by the party’s Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) was responsible for President Goodluck Jonathan’s crushing defeat in last month’s election.

Jonathan’s campaign spokesman Femi Fani-Kayode, Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, presidential aide Dr. Doyin Okupe and First Lady Patience Jonathan led the hate campaign.

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos yesterday fixed May 8 to hear an application filed by controversial Lagos-based businessman, Prince Buruju Kashamu, seeking to stop his extradition to the United States of America on alleged drug-related offences.

The speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Ude Okochukwu, has announced the passage of the state’s 2015 appropriation bill of more than N105 billion.

Hon. Okochukwu who made the announcement during the House plenary session in Umuahia, said the appropriation bill shall be deemed to have come into effect on January 1, 2015.

Earlier while presenting the report of the budget to the House, the chairman House Committee on Appropriation, Mr. Martin Azubuike, said that the committee had recommended that adequate machinery be put in place for proper collection of the state revenue.

He noted that the 2015 budget will improve the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR) and the living conditions of the people.

Kirikiri inmates forced to pay for transport to court

Inmates at the Kirikiri Maximum Prisons, Lagos, are being forced to pay for their transport to the court for appearances, following the breakdown of the truck attached to the facility.

It was learnt that the prison occupants, particularly the Awaiting Trial Inmates, were made to pay varying amounts of money from N200 to N500 as transport levy.

President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday met separately with two leading pastors in the countries based in Ogun State.

Jonathan met with the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye; and the Presiding Bishop of the Living Faith Church Worldwide a.k.a Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo.

FG demands corpses of 4 Nigerians executed in Indonesia

The Federal Government has condemned the execution of four Nigerians by Indonesian authorities over drug-related offences, demanding the repatriation of the corpses of the executed persons for them to be given a decent burial in their various communities.
According to a statement on Wednesday night from the Public Communications Division of Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja,the Federal government called the executions a dissapointement, despite pleas for clemency by president Jonathan.
