Rip off: FG may impose fines on telecom companies



The federal government has expressed its dissatisfaction on the incessant rip-offs by telecommunication companies on its subscribers, warning that failure by the companies to correct this anomaly would be met with stiff sanctions.

Minister of Communication, Barrister Bayo Shittu, who disclosed this during a chat with journalists in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, said one of the ways the companies rip off their subscribers is through illegal deduction on unsubscribed messages.

Alfa promises to turn N350,000 to N5m, vanishes


The Maroko Police Division in the Lekki area of Lagos State has arrested a self-acclaimed Alfa, Alhaji Ibrahim Ahamido, for allegedly defrauding a trader, Sarah Moses.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Ahamido collected N350,000 from Moses, promising to boost her business by turning the money to N5m.

He was, however, alleged to have fled with the money, after giving his girlfriend, Hawa Musa, N100,000 to “renew their love”.

A Liberian, Daniel Barnney, is being held by the police for allegedly selling his nine-month-old son Emmanuel to a 43-year-old woman, Ekah Richard, for N250,000.

Barnney, one Pastor Samuel Osavitu and a worker at an orphanage, Alhaji Sunkanmi Adamu, are being quizzed at Festac Police Station over the matter.

US performs its first uterus transplant



The United States has completed its first uterus transplant surgery, following on a technique already proven in Sweden that could help women suffering from infertility, the Cleveland Clinic said Thursday.

The nine-hour surgery took place on February 24, and the 26-year-old patient -- whose identity was not revealed -- was in stable condition, the hospital said in a statement.

For two years, 45-year-old Dele Oduwole had operated as a fake traffic policeman around Ketu area of Lagos.

His specialty: arresting traffic offenders and extorting money from them.

Oduwole, who ran out of luck recently, said he and an accomplice had arrested a motorist at Ketu and impounded his vehicle before a suspicious policeman challenged them about their identities.

The suspect said he preferred to operate with just a walkie-talkie rather than putting on a fake police uniform.
