Americans held hostage in Iran win compensation, 36 years later
After spending 444 days in captivity, and more than 30 years seeking restitution, the Americans taken hostage at the United States Embassy in Tehran in 1979 have finally won compensation.
Buried in the huge spending bill signed into law last Friday are provisions that would give each of the 53 hostages or their estates up to $4.4 million.
Disturbing Story of How Man Raped Seven Children in Ebonyi
Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested a middle aged man, Chinedu Nwoja, for allegedly defiling seven female children at Onueke in Ezza South local government area of the state.
Narrating their ordeal, some of the victims aged between six and 10 alleged that the man who was a father of three had on several occasions lured them to his vehicle and other isolated places where he repeatedly carried out the act. He lives with the children in the same compound.

Police admit killing UNIPORT student
The Rivers State Police Command has admitted to killing a final year student of the University of Port Harcourt, Oghenekevwe Edah.
It was learnt that the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations), A.A. Muhammed, who delivered a condolence message to the deceased’s family on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police, Musa Kimo, promised that justice would be done in the matter, Punch reports.
On Tuesday, Oghenekevwe was returning from a church on Sunday and was standing at the Assemblies of God Church Junction, in the Alakahia area of Port Harcourt, when a police van driving against traffic hit him.
Pay me my money, Fasehun tells Buhari
The founder of the Odua People’s Congress, Dr. Fredrick Fasehun, has asked the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to pay him and his organisation the money owed them for the protection of oil pipelines.
Fasehun, who is also the national chairman of the Unity Party of Nigeria, said this at a quarterly interactive media roundtable in Lagos on Tuesday.
Suspected robber misses way after operation, arrested
The police in Lagos have arrested a suspected robber, Saliu John, on the Old Apapa Road, Oyingbo, after allegedly dispossessing some market women of about N28,000.
Our correspondent gathered that John, who was said to have come to the area with two others, was nabbed by members of a vigilance group after he reportedly missed his way after the operation.

Govt lists six treason charges against kanu
Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) leader and Radio Biafra Director Nnamdi Kanu is to be charged with treason.
Kanu was arrested on October 14 in Lagos and arraigned before an Abuja Magistrate’s Court on October 19. The court struck out the charges brought against him by the Department of State Service (DSS) because the prosecution applied to withdraw the charges.
Buhari directs immediate payment of December salaries
President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the immediate payment of December salaries to Federal Government workers.
The Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, who spoke yesterday in Abuja at the end of the monthly Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting, said salaries were already being paid in response to the Presidential directive.

NEW DELHI: We were treated like criminals despite valid visa, says student deported by US
Air India on Sunday night stopped 19 Indian students from boarding its flight to San Francisco after being informed by US authorities that the two universities to which they had been admitted were under "scrutiny".
Air India said the move was aimed at preventing the students from being "inconvenienced".
A statement issued by the national carrier cited the plight of 14 students who had earlier travelled on Air India flights to San Francisco to the same universities but were deported.

Man rapes 24-year-old Facebook lover at first meeting
A 26-year-old man, Taiwo Oluwatobi, has been arrested, for allegedly luring his Facebook lover to his house, and raping her.
Oluwatobi had met the 24-year-old victim, identified only as Temitope, on Facebook. He had allegedly lured her to his house in the Alagomeji, Yaba area of the state to collect N15,000, during which he raped her,Punch reports.

500,000 Lagos residents threatened by leaking sewage plant
NO fewer than 500,000 residents of Iponri Low-Cost Housing Estate, Surulere Local Government Area of Lagos State, yesterday appealed to the state government to save their lives from looming epidemic.
The residents told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the sewage plant which drains dirty water from the soak-away of more than 400 housing units with 500,000 residents has been disconnected by Eko Disco (EKEDC) due to unpaid bills.

The 17,774 beneficiaries include President, Vice President, Senate President, the House of Representatives Speaker, Deputy Speaker, ministers, governors, senators, members of the House of Representatives, judges, principal officers and members of the state Houses of Assembly, commissioners and local government chairmen and their councillors.
Salaries take N94.959 billion and allowances cost about N1,031,654,689,033.18 (N1.031trillion).

Nigerian Army commutes death sentence on 66 soldiers
The 66 soldiers who were condemned to death by military courts for mutiny and trying to kill their commanding officer in the war on Boko Haram, will no longer face the firing squad.
Instead, they will serve a term of 10 year imprisonment each after the military authorities reviewed their cases and granted them a reprieve.

Man Who Survived 15 Months Drifting At Sea Sued For Eating Colleague
Reports have it that the castaway, Salvador Alvarenga, 36, who survived 15 months at sea by drinking urine and turtle blood has been sued for $1m for ‘eating his colleague’.
The man who is being sued by the family of the colleague claimed that Alvarenga, ate crewmate Ezequiel Cordoba, 22, and want £650,000 from him.
Salvador Alvarenga, 36, paid Ezequiel Cordoba, 22, $50 to accompany him on a two-day fishing trip off the coast of Mexico in November 2012.

AN 'EVIL' mother who caged her daughter in a chicken coop and shocked her with a electric dog collar has been jailed for 190 years
Cruel Diana Franklin tied her adopted girl to a tree by her neck during a shocking six-year campaign of torture.
Franklin, 48, also beat the naked child with a belt buckle and held her at gunpoint, according to reports.
The American Civil War re-enactor - who served in the US Air Force - wrote in a diary how the girl was her "slave".

The Federal Ministry of Finance has empowered no fewer than 100 unemployed graduates under its Graduate Internship Scheme (GIS) programme in Lagos State.
The three-day training was held between December 7 and 9 at the NECA building Alausa, Ikeja.
The director of the scheme, Mr Peter Papka, in his speech delivered by his representative, John Umoren, said: “The orientation and employability training are meant for the graduate interns but we have deliberately included partnering firms and organizations as part of government’s commitment in contributing to enhancement of their capacity in service effectiveness, especially through staff assessment\development through structured mentorship and other critical lines which are necessary for growth of any firm and organization. It also provides an opportunity to share with other partners and interns on workplace and performance and how to optimize on the benefits of the scheme.”
