A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has adjourned the N150billion libel lawsuit former Lagos state governor, Bola Tinubu filed against TV station AIT today May 27th. Tinubu had filed the suit against AIT in March for airing a documentary titled "Lion of Bourdilion" which he alleged was aimed at tarnishing his image.

Supreme Court affirms Rauf Aregbesola as Osun state governor

The Supreme Court today affirmed the August 9th 2014 election of Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun state. The state PDP Governorship candidate Senator Iyiola Omisore had approached the apex court to vacate the previous ruling of the Court of Appeal and the Osun state Election Tribunal that had upheld the election of Aregbesola. Omisore asked the court to declare him winner of the election, accusing Mr Aregbesola and his party, APC of engaging in electoral malpractice during the election.

Herbalist, prophetess defraud bankers of N6m



The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a herbalist, Ismaila Abdullahi, and a prophetess, Bola Ojo, for allegedly defrauding two bank workers of a sum of N6m in the Egbeda area of the state.

The suspects, however, told PUNCH Metro that the bank workers brought the money to them for prayers without being coerced.

They added that the bank workers wanted to perform ‘money rituals’.

According to the police, Ojo is the prophetess of a Cherubim and Seraphim church in the Iyana Ipaja area, while Abdullahi is a herbalist in the Egbeda area.

Soldiers take over Capital Oil, load drums with fuel



Officials of the Nigerian Army on Monday took over the Ojodu Berger outlet of Capital Oil, buying petroleum products in drums, after scaring away thousands of consumers.

The armed personnel came in the guise of maintaining peace and order, but they soon abandoned their primary responsibility for fuel racket. They shoved, maltreated and sent away those who were on queue to be attended to, thereby gaining access to have their drums loaded with fuel.

As of press time, the unregistered white Isuzu truck they use for the ‘deal’ had visited the filling station for the fourth time.

Democracy day: FG declares public holiday



The Federal Government has declared Friday 29th May, 2015 as Public Holiday to celebrate the 2015 Democracy Day.

The Minister of Interior, Abba Moro made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement signed yesterday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Abubakar Magaji.
The statement urged Nigerians at home and Diaspora to support the incoming government and pray for the success of Nigeria’s democratic process.

Jonathan releases N5b to buy stoves for rural women



President Goodluck Jonathan has released N5 billion to the Ministry of Environment for the purchase of clean cook stoves for rural women, a project which is expected to gulp N9.2 billion.

Minister of Environment Laurentia Mallam, who said this yesterday, added that the President will inaugurate the project today.

Mrs. Mallam said the stoves will be distributed to women in the rural areas through the state ministries of environment.

Nigerian Army Kill Boko Haram Commander, Recover foreign Currency (Photos)



The Nigerian military has killed a Boko haram commander and recovered thousands of Euro currency on his body after troops successfully repelled the insurgents on Mafa towards the Nigerian border with Chad.

A statement from the Defence Headquarters said that the terrorist who is an Amir by status is believed to be of foreign descent. He was among 30 terrorist fighters who died in the encounter with Nigerian soldiers.

VP Sambo Presents Handover Notes to Buhari’s Men

Mad Man Rapes DELSU Student At ATM Centre



Anxiety at the weekend enveloped Abraka metropolis in Delta State when a suspected insane man identified as Theophilus (surname withheld) allegedly raped 22-year-old female student of the state-owned university, DELSU, when she went to get some money at a popular ATM unit.

Reports said the suspect emerged from the bush close to the ATM unit unseen by unsuspecting persons waiting to the withdraw money and allegedly pounced on the victim, identified Ejiro (surname withheld), dragged her into the bush. Her attempt to raise the alarm failed.

Man Survives Head Being Ripped From His Spine


A man survived against the odds after his skull was ripped from his spine in a car crash.

Tony Cowan, 29, suffered injuries similar to those suffered by Christopher Reeve and was left paralysed following the crash in September last year.

His car hit a speed bump before spinning out of control and hitting a telephone poll in Newcastle. Only muscle and tissue prevented him from being decapitated.

He suffered a complete spinal cord injury and there appeared to be no brain activity so his partner of 10 years, Karen Dawson, took the decision to turn his life support machine off.

But after she, his mother Pepsi Cowan and the rest of his family had said their goodbyes, Tony opened his eyes.

Buhari can’t fix eight years rot overnight, says Obasanjo



Former President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday urged Nigerians to be patient with the in-coming Muhammadu Buhari administration.

Obasanjo said the expectations are enormous, but advised Nigerians to accept the fact that what was destroyed in the last eight years cannot be fixed overnight by Buhari.

He expressed the confidence that the Buhari administration would “perform,” adding that Nigerians now have a “ new opportunity” to make the country work.

Obasanjo, who quit party politics to assume the position of a statesman, spoke yesterday in his Abeokuta residence at the Presidential Hilltop Estate, where he hosted Southwest women leaders.

Jonathan, Sambo & Others Given 30-day Deadline to Declare Assets



With five days to the end of President Goodluck Jonathan’s tenure, the President, Vice-President Namadi Sambo, 29 governors and 42 ministers have been asked by the Code of Conduct Bureau to declare their assets, SUNDAY PUNCH authoritatively reports.

Also on the list of public officials who must declare their assets before leaving office are the country’s 109 senators and 360 members of the House of Representatives.

The bureau, last week, issued the Completed Assets Declaration Forms to them with a 30-day deadline to return the completed forms. The deadline countdown starts from the day of the receipt of
the forms.

Eleven kidnap victims, who were abducted at various locations within Ekiti State in the last three weeks, were Saturday rescued and they have been released by security agencies to be reunited with their families.

The victims, including a professor at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Femi Omisore were freed by combined forces of the Police and local vigilant group at Esure Ekiti in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of the State.
The traditional ruler of Esure, Oba Adebanji Ajibola, who recounted how they were freed at his palace in Esure Ekiti, said the local hunters had located the kidnappers’ den through a tip-off from a woman, who complained that she saw a suspected armed man in the bush.

Okonjo-Iweala: Jonathan Incurred $21bn of $63bn National Debts



Coordinating Minister for the Economy (CME) and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on Saturday put the nation’s total debt stock at $63.7 billion, which encompasses multilateral as well as domestic loans by successive federal and state governments since 1960. She said that of this figure, $21.8 billion was incurred under the outgoing government of President Goodluck Jonathan.

Danjuma to Buhari: Probe Jonathan’s govt



Former Minister of Defence, Lt. Gen. Theophilus Danjuma yesterday asked the president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, to probe the outgoing government.

Danjuma said the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan was very corrupt.

He spoke to reporters in Takum, Taraba State, while commissioning three newly built bridges along Takum-Katsina Ala road.

Buhari rejects Rolls Royce in London

65-year-old Annegret Raunigk gives birth to QUADRUPLETS – now has 17 children

A 65-year-old woman has given birth to quadruplets- meaning she now has 17 children.

Annegret Raunigk, a teacher from Berlin, Germany, gave birth to a girl, Neeta, and three boys – Dries, Bence and Fjonn – by caesarean section at a Berlin hospital on Tuesday.

The four newborns weighed between one lb, seven ounces and two lbs, two ounces each. The children were said to be healthy but were being moitored as they had been born prematurely at only 26 weeks.

Ms Raunigk was said to be doing ‘well’ after the birth.

A Nollywood actor and his wife have sensationally told the po­lice why they decided to sell their two-year-old son, Samuel Chukwuneye for N350, 000 to a Port Harcourt based woman simply identified as Ogechi. The couple, though not legal­ly married, had been living together. They were identified as Kanayo Awurum, 29, and Ugochi Kelechi, 28, both of who are from Ikeduru Local Government Area in Imo State.

Crack detectives attached to Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 29-year-old man, who keeps weapons for armed robbery gangs. Rasak Adeyinka, a native of Abeokuta, Ogun State, was apprehended in his hideout, Owode, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun state sometime in March 2015.

Among them, it was learnt, was an attack on retired Primate of Anglican Communion also, an indigene of Abeokuta, Rev. Peter Jasper Akinola, on December 24, 2013, at Aro, Abeokuta. Also, it was said that the gang attacked the Rector, DS Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Abeokuta, on March 24, 2013, at Papalanto area where the driver of the rector, one Musibau was killed and the Bursar of the institution sustained bullet wounds. Only the rector, it was learnt, escaped unhurt, while their Toyota Hilux was snatched, until the vehicle was demolished, on account of the tracking device installed in it.

4 priests beaten to pulp as Enugu Govt battles Anglican Church



No fewer than six persons, including four Anglican priests, were on Friday allegedly beaten to stupor by some members a task-force working with the Enugu State Housing Corporation.

The victims were Reverends Collins Odoabuchi, Mbaka Peter, Eugene, and Maxwell Onyia.

Others members of the church affected were Ekpecha Okechukwu and Naomi Ibekwe.

The development, which is building up tension in Enugu, the state capital is coming one week to the end of Governor Sullivan Chime’s administration.

Hungary Mothers In McDonald's Breast-Feeding Protest


Mothers in the Hungarian capital Budapest have occupied a McDonald's restaurant in protest against its move earlier this week to stop a woman from breast-feeding her baby.

Several baby-carrying mothers entered a McDonald's near the Western Railway Station, sat down, bared their breasts and began feeding their babies.
