Killer strangled girlfriend then posted pictures of naked body on 4chan image-sharing website

David Kalac told users on the site famous for naked celebrity picture leaks "I just wanted to share the pics before they find me"

A man murdered his girlfriend then posted nude pictures of her and the crime scene on image-sharing website 4chan, according to police.

David Kalac, 33, was arrested following a high-speed chase after the body of Amber Coplin was found in her home.

Images of her nude body were allegedly posted by Kalac on the image-sharing website 4chan.

When users responded by questioning if the pictures were genuine, Kalac allegedly responded: "Check the news for Port orchard, Washington, in a few hours. Her son will be home from school soon."

"He'll find her then call the cops. I just wanted to share the pics before they find me.

"I bought a bb gun that looks realistic enough. When they come, I'll pull it and it will be suicide by cop.

"I understand the doubts. Just check the f***ing news. I have to lose my phone now."

Doctors tell man he's PREGNANT - you won't believe how they found out

A bus driver was shocked to be given the good news by officials after he was selected for a random health checkup.

Good news: A male bus driver finds out he's pregnant during routine tests.

A male Egyptian bus driver was shocked after doctors told him he was PREGNANT after undergoing a random health check-up.

The man had been randomly selected to provide a random urine sample along with other public bus drivers - as part of the country's routine drugs checks.

But instead of using his own, the bus driver submitted his wife's urine, reports the Al-Yawm al-Sabi website.

Unfortunately, his trick was foiled after it was revealed that his wife was actually two months pregnant.

Before breaking the news to the driver, it was reported by presenter Tamir Amin on political talk show Bottom Line, that officials asked the man to confirm the sample was his own.

When he agreed, they allegedly responded: "Congratulations you're pregnant."

"This story, despite being funny, has several lessons," said Mr Amin.

"First, that drugs have become available to many and have become common as cigarettes. This is a calamity."

From now on, the Public Transport Authority (PTA) will require a blood test as well as a urine sample, confirms a source at the PTA hospital.

It is hoped that this will prevent employees from attempting to fake their samples.

Champagne lover Jay Z acquires luxury label

Hip-hop mogul Jay Z has shown his fondness for Armand de Brignac Champagne for years. On Wednesday, he bought the brand.

Sovereign Brands, a New York-based wine and spirits company which owned the label, said it was selling it to Jay Z for an undisclosed amount.

Armand de Brignac is produced by a staff of eight people at the Cattier family house in the French town of Chigny-les-Roses, with the golden bottles bearing an ace-of-spades insignia.

While the winemaking house was established in 1763, the Armand de Brignac line was launched just in 2006 -- the year it was discovered by Jay Z who featured the champagne in his video for "Show Me What You Got."

Yvonne Lardner, a spokeswoman for Sovereign Brands, said that the company has had a "wonderful relationship" with Jay Z.

"He became interested in owning the brand and made us an offer we simply couldn't refuse," she said.

"To establish an iconic, credible high-end champagne in such a short period of time is something truly remarkable," she said.

In one high-profile incident, Jay Z brought out a display of 350 bottles of Armand de Brignac in 2012 when he and his wife Beyonce threw a fund-raising party for President Barack Obama at a New York nightclub.

The giant presentation was quickly covered up, with Obama's re-election campaign presumably concerned about the optics of appearing around $300-a-bottle champagne bottles.

The acquisition is the latest business venture for Jay Z, whose original name is Shawn Carter. His past transactions have included a stake that he later sold in the Barclays Center arena in Brooklyn.

Forbes magazine has estimated Jay Z's net worth at $520 million. The magazine said this week that Beyonce was the highest-earning woman in music last year, raking in $115 million.

Jay Z and other rappers have frequently extolled the joys of champagne. Jay-Z's song "Young Forever" envisioned a time in which "you never get old and the champagne's always cold."

But hip-hop's relationship with champagne has not been without difficulty. Louis Roederer's Cristal brand had been a favorite among hip-hop artists, but Jay Z in 2006 called a boycott over comments by an executive he saw as racist.

The executive, who was commenting on hip-hop's association with champagne, denied the charges.

Arrests in Pakistan desecration slaying

Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN) - Pakistani police say they have arrested up to 40 people in connection with the killing of a Christian couple in Punjab province who were beaten, then pushed into a burning kiln after being accused of desecrating the Quran.

Local police officials said a mob from neighboring villages formed Tuesday after a local mullah declared the couple were guilty of blasphemy.

The mob allegedly marched to the couple's home, broke down their door, dragged them outside, beat them and threw them into the brick kiln where they both worked.

The attack happened in the town of Kot Radha Kishan, about 60 kilometers (37 miles) southwest of Lahore, the capital of Punjab. Police officials identified the woman as Shyman Bibi Urf Shamar, and her husband as Sajjad Nasir Zurjah Nazir Nasir.

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), which dispatched a team to the scene, said in a statement that the couple had three young children -- two sons and a daughter, and indicated the slain woman was pregnant.

"HRCP is shocked and saddened beyond words by the callous murder of the couple and their unborn child," the group said.

According to the statement, the HRCP team "did not come across any evidence of desecration of the Holy Quran."

Desecration of the Quran is punishable by death or life imprisonment under Pakistan's anti-blasphemy law.

Human rights groups have long urged the country to repeal the law, arguing that it has led to discrimination, persecution and murder.

Women sentenced in attack on Mary J. Blige's father

A woman accused of stabbing the father of R&B singer Mary J. Blige during a domestic dispute in Michigan has been sentenced to jail.

he Battle Creek Enquirer reports that Cheryl White of Battle Creek was sentenced Monday to a year in jail, but with 270 days already served.

She'll also serve five years of probation and pay more than $17,000 for Thomas Blige's nursing services.

White didn't address the court Monday.

White in September pleaded no contest to assault with intent to commit great bodily harm. A no contest plea isn't an admission of guilt but is treated as such for sentencing.

Thomas Blige testified earlier that White attacked him with a knife on January 23 after he caught her slashing his tyres.

Durban club owner bust with ecstasy tablets worth R85 million

The operation leading to the seizure of the drugs, which were en route to Durban, has led to five arrests so far as three police units investigate what they believe is a major syndicate

The National Crime Intelligence Unit, the National Investigation Unit and the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) have jointly made yet another major breakthrough in the drug-trafficking world.

The team announced in a statement today that they arrested two men, a Bulgarian national and a Durban club owner, at the Middleburg Toll Plaza on the N4 late last night.

They were found in possession of ecstasy tablets with a street value of up to R85 million, which were being transported in a light delivery vehicle destined for Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

Following these arrests, a second team comprising of the same disciplines from the SAPS, swooped down on a house in Koningkramer Street in the suburb of Westville, KwaZulu-Natal.

The team recovered precursor chemicals which are commonly used in the manufacturing of drugs, particularly cocaine. They also recovered a bulk of powdered chemicals which are suspected to have been used in manufacturing illicit narcotics. They arrested the owner of the house and two of his employees.

The South African who was arrested at the toll plaza and the owner of the house in Westville are business partners. They own clubs on the famous Florida Road in Durban and in other parts of the Musgrave area in Durban.

In the meantime, the drugs and chemicals are being sent for forensic analysis and, on completion of the analysis, charges will be determined and the suspects formally charged.

Boko Haram Carries out Pogrom Against Christians in Mubi

• CAN decries killings, says officers are sabotaging the military

Lafarge boss gives the all-clear after attack on Ashaka Cement.

The security situation in Mubi, Adamawa State’s second largest city, keeps taking a turn for the worse as Boko Haram terrorists have resorted to destroying churches and killing and uprooting Christians from the predominantly Christian town in their bid to establish an Islamic caliphate and make Mubi its headquarters.

The terrorists had renamed the historic town “Madinatul Islam”, meaning the city of Islam and peace, on Tuesday.

Residents trapped in Mubi confirmed through phone calls that the insurgents had ordered Christians to leave the city or denounce their religion and accept Islam or get killed.

Reverend Stephen, who escaped from the hands of the insurgents by a whisker yesterday, said the terrorists were going around setting ablaze any church they come across in Mubi.

The cleric said he was trapped in Mubi while trying to locate the whereabouts of his wife and children, adding that he fled after tracing them on Monday.

“They warned us that whoever goes astray, will definitely meet him or her waterloo, so we had to abide by their rules for the fear of being killed. But immediately, my family and myself planned our exit out of the trouble town,” he revealed.

He said the killings in Mubi were being carried out selectively by the Boko Haram insurgents, alleging that most of the people killed were Christians who refused to accept their injunctions.

Another resident from Mubi, who also escaped yesterday, Mr. Joseph Namu, said the insurgents had been going round the city burning churches and killing anybody that resisted their dictates.

He confirmed to THISDAY that churches like the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN), Ekklisiyar’s Yanuwa a Nigeria (EYN no 1), a Catholic church situated at Ahmadu Bello Way and a Baptist Church located in Sabonline, as well as several other churches were torched by the insurgents.

“Christians are killed by the insurgents on discovery that they cannot recite a part of the Koran known as Kalimatu Shahada and are not ready to denounce the name of Jesus Christ and embrace Islam,” he said.

He added that the insurgents used fuel from petrol stations abandoned by their owners to burn the churches.

“Even I had to lie that I was a Muslim because I could recite Kalimatu Shahada, so the insurgents granted me passage without further interrogation,” he said.

In addition to destroying churches and carrying out a pogrom against Christians, the Boko Haram insurgents have commenced the enforcement of Sharia Law in Mubi.

Ten Muslims reportedly had their hands amputated by the insurgents for stealing wrappers.

Residents trapped in Mubi said the insurgents had established a full-fledged Sharia government in the area, promising to inculcate discipline in the people.

Also, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese in Yola, Rt. Reverend Dami Stephen Mamza, yesterday said the killings in Mubi were selective.

He asserted that the recent pronouncement of a ceasefire agreement with the Boko Haram by the federal government through the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, had made the residents of Adamawa State more vulnerable to attacks.

The bishop made the statement shortly after distributing relief materials to 2,300 displaced families at St. Theresa’s Cathedral, Yola, the Adamawa State capital, and also condemned the growing insurgency in the state.

He lamented that hundreds of residents had been killed and thousands rendered homeless, charging the federal government to intensify efforts to immediately address the situation to avoid anarchy in the system.

He described the killing of innocent people and attacks on their homes without a just cause by the insurgents as heartless, unfortunate and passionately appealed to the federal and state governments to muster the political will to tackle the insurgency.

However, a security source said the military was planning to launch a massive counter-attack and recapture Mubi on Wednesday.

He added that Nigerian troops were advancing towards Mubi, revealing that thousands of riot policemen were also drafted to give the military back-up and were already stationed in the villages and towns close to Mubi.

In a related development, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) yesterday expressed outrage over the infiltration of the military in the fight against the Boko Haram insurgency.

Angered by the recent killings of Christians and Muslims in the North-eastern part of the country and the daring attacks that have been launched recently by the terrorists, President of CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, on Wednesday exploded, warning, “Enough is enough”.

Oritsejafor spoke in Abuja during the National Executive Council meeting of CAN, stating that areas that had been taken over and fallen under the control of Boko Haram are predominantly Christian territories.

The CAN president said Christians were no longer safe in those troubled parts of the country.
He maintained that Boko Haram was waging a religious war against Christians.

“What is happening in the North-east is unacceptable to us. Christians are the main victims. We are not saying that other people are not affected. But Christians are the ones affected the most.

“All the places where Boko Haram has foisted its flag are dominated by Christians. They have taken over Mubi in Adamawa State, which is dominated by Christians. Somebody will now tell me this is not religion. Who is fooling who? Nigerians should accept that we have a problem," Oritsejafor said.

While urging Nigerians to pray to God to bring to an end the mindless killings, Oritsejafor said he would not join other Nigerians who have become popular by constantly criticising the military.

He however called on the leadership of the military to fish out saboteurs in its midst if the war against terror must be won.

“All well-meaning Nigerians must pray and continue to pray. We must pray. I will not join those condemning our security agencies. They are Nigerians. Women are losing their husbands and children are losing their fathers. I want to challenge the military. They can do better. They must continue to fish out those sabotaging their efforts. Those people should be expelled. They are in all the security agencies.

“No matter the intention you have, if you have people working against you, you will not succeed. There are too many people in the system working against the system. Why should this kind of thing be happening?

“Innocent people are being killed. It’s too much. Enough is enough," Oritsejafor told the audience.

He urged the federal government and other critical stakeholders to adopt a more pragmatic approach in bringing to an end the activities of Boko Haram, contending that the use of force alone cannot stop the insurgency.

“Even though I have said the military must continue to work harder, guns and bullets alone will not solve this problem. Boko Haram is an ideology. Let us not run away from it. You do not defeat an ideology with guns and bullets. You defeat an ideology with a superior ideology. Boko Haram will not listen to me.

“I want to make an appeal to our Muslim clerics and Muslim political leaders to come together and see how they can help us solve this problem. They have the solution. There are some Muslim scholars Boko Haram members respect. To a large extent, that is the only way out.

“As members of CAN, we are ready to meet with them. I believe in progressive dialogue. This is my strong appeal. I want to appeal to those at the grassroots. This connects to the leaders. The leaders should talk to those at the grassroots. They should give reliable intelligence to our security agents. Please, do not harbour these people. They are not fighting for you. Expose them.

“I know we have some members of the press here. I hope they will pass the message. We want a better Nigeria, where everyone is equal and respects the constitution. In fact, we want one constitution where everyone will follow. Those saying Boko Haram is not religious are deceiving themselves.

“We want a Nigeria where everyone is safe. We want a Nigeria where a man is not judged by his religion. That is the Nigeria we all want. If we want one united Nigeria, we must all pay the price for it,” he charged.

He called on the international community to come to the aid of Nigeria and Nigerians, but still held the belief that the country would surmount its current challenges, ensuring that terrorism is defeated.

“I believe as bad as the situation is, with God, all things are possible. I know that there is God.
He will not forsake us. We have restrained our people so much and we will continue to restrain them. But I beg Nigerians not to let this continue. These are dangerous and serious times.

“I was reading a report from a priest in Borno of how churches have been destroyed. I wonder why the international community is not saying anything. Is this not human rights violation? We call on government, NEMA, NGOs, the international community. We need help. Our people are dying. Come and help us,” he pleaded.

On the forthcoming general election, Oritsejafor called on all Christians across the country to register and vote, stating that they must participate in who governs them.

Oritsejafor explained that CAN suspects a cover-up on the part of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the poor handling of the distribution of the permanent voters' cards.

He cautioned against any plan to disenfranchise Christians, stressing that such moves would be resisted.

“I want to say passionately to Nigerians. Go and get your voters’ cards. I want to appeal to INEC to double up. Our people must register and have their voters’ cards. I hope INEC is not doing something deliberate here in order to prevent Christians from voting. I hope Professor Attahiru Jega can hear me. We must all vote and vote wisely,” he said.

Meanwhile, the chief executive of French construction giant Lafarge, Bruno Lafont, yesterday gave the all-clear after Ashaka Cement factory, a subsidiary of the group in Gombe State, came under attack from suspected Boko Haram militants.

“The factory was the target of the intruders. There were no injuries. There was no damage to the factory,” Lafont told reporters.

“This morning (Wednesday) the situation is still calm and everything has returned to normal,” he said, adding that the intruders had left the factory.

Lafarge sources said the factory, which employs roughly 500 people, was “running as normal”.

At roughly 3.00pm (1400 GMT) on Tuesday, gunmen thought to be members of Boko Haram raided the Ashaka Cement plant in Nafada Local Government Area, Gombe State.

An employee told AFP that they looted dynamite and demanded to be taken to the room in the compound housing expatriates.

He said the plant was mostly empty, with staff running for safety when news spread that the gunmen were approaching.

Manchester United news: Anderson's contract could be cancelled

Exclusive: If Manchester United are unable to find a buyer for £26m Anderson in January, they are willing to pay the £1.4m required to end the midfielder's contract.

Manchester United will consider cancelling the remaining six months on the £60,000-a-week contract of Brazilian midfielder Anderson if they are unable to find a new club for the player in January.

Anderson, whose transfer from Porto in May 2007 ultimately cost United £26m, has been told he can leave Old Trafford by manager Louis van Gaal after failing to impress during pre-season.

But despite making the 26-year-old available for transfer during the summer, United received no offers for a player who was once regarded as one of the game’s brightest talents following his emergence as a teenage prodigy at Porto.

With Anderson’s stock having now fallen so low within the game, however, it is understood that United are ready to explore the possibility of paying up the remainder of the player’s contract, which could cost up to £1.4m, simply to remove him from the playing squad and enhance his prospects of finding a new club.

Efforts to offload Anderson last season failed to succeed, with Italian outfit Fiorentina rejecting the chance to sign him permanently following a six-month loan spell at the club earlier this year.

While United would prefer to negotiate a sale or loan, which would see the Old Trafford club pay a portion of Anderson’s wages, the option of cancelling his contract - a five-year deal signed in October 2010 - has not been ruled out.

United cancelled the final two years of the contract of French goalkeeper Fabien Barthez in June 2004 at the cost of £5m, and with United already out of the Capital One Cup and with no European football on the fixture list this season, a similar move is being considered with Anderson due to the remote prospects of him featuring in Van Gaal’s squad between now and the end of the season.

Anderson has made two appearances for the first-team under Van Gaal, playing in the 4-0 Capital One Cup defeat at MK Dons and then making a twenty-minute substitute appearance in the 0-0 Premier League draw at Burnley four days later.

But since making an appearance in the reserve team alongside Luke Shaw and Adnan Januzaj in September, he has been overlooked in every squad subsequently selected by Van Gaal.

Round-up: Messi equals Champions League goals' record, Chelsea held to a draw in Slovenia

Lionel Messi day after day continues to prove what a great player that he is, powering Barcelona to a 2-0 victory over Ajax in their UEFA Champions League game.

It was a game that saw the Argentine equal the records of Real Madrid legend, Raul, netting a brace that took his tally to 71 goals scored in the Champions League.

Only Raul had that amount of goals in the competition, and Messi has now matched it, moving a goal above his greatest rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, who is on 70 goals.

The manner Messi executed the goals were delightful, hooking in a header in the first half to open the scores, although there were shouts of an offside in the build-up.

His second was more enthralling, he started a move, laying a pass in the paths of Luis Suarez, then quickly moving into position to toe-poke a squared pass in the net for the second goal, ultimately landing himself level with Raul.

With Messi going to play first on Matchday 5 against APOEL, it is most likely that he will be the highest goalscorer even before Ronaldo gets another chance to match Raul's record.

Meanwhile it was a bit disappointing for Chelsea in their travel to Slovenia, only managing a draw against NK Maribor.

Coach Jose Mourinho's team had to come from behind before they were able to a 1-1 draw.

Agim Ibraimi stunned Chelsea with a beautiful curling shot that went past Petr Cech for the opening goal.

Somehow, Chelsea found a way and equalised through Nemanja Matic who guided in John Terry's knock-down to draw his team level.

Chelsea blew a chance to claim all three points, with Jasmin Handanovic saving Eden Hazard's penalty, which helped them to secure a point in the game.

The other shock result of the night came at the Etihad stadium where City were fumbled at home to Ahmed Musa's CSKA Moscow.

Manchester City were beaten 2-1 in front of their fans , and they are now bottom of their group,in danger of not making it to the knockout stages of the competition.

Results
Bayern 2-0 Roma
Athletic 0-2 Porto
Ajax 0-2 Barcelona
Sporting 4-2 Schalke
Shakhtar 5-0 BATE
PSG 1-0 APOEL
Man City 1-2 CSKA Moscow
Maribor 1-1 Chelsea

Obama to request $6 billion for Ebola crisis

United States President Barack Obama is seeking more than $6 billion in emergency funding to fight the Ebola epidemic in West Africa and respond to cases in the United States, a White House official said Wednesday.

The United Nations has described the Ebola outbreak that has killed some 5,000 people — most in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone — as a threat to world peace and security, and issued repeated appeals for aid.

The US response aims to “strengthen our domestic public health systems, contain and mitigate the outbreak in West Africa, speed efforts to obtain and test vaccines and therapeutics, and further reduce risks to Americans” by helping prevent, detect and respond to outbreaks in vulnerable countries, said the official from the Office of Management and Budget.

“These activities are critical to combat the spread of Ebola and reduce the potential for future outbreaks of infectious diseases that could follow a similarly devastating, costly, and destabilizing trajectory,” the official said.

US officials have criticized the level of international support for countries hit by Ebola and said foreign governments needed to do more to send doctors and equipment.

The United States has deployed military and civilian personnel to the region to build hospitals and provide logistical and other assistance.

“To help meet both immediate and longer-term requirements, we are requesting over $4.5 billion for immediate response and $1.5 billion for a Contingency Fund to ensure that there are resources available to meet the evolving nature of the epidemic,” the official said.

So far, the United States has sent nearly 2,000 people, including soldiers, health workers and aid workers, the OMB official said Wednesday.

The US military plans to boost its force in West Africa to as many as 4,000 soldiers.

Much of the US response has been focused in Liberia, the hardest hit country, due to historical links.

The World Health Organization, has so far recorded more than 13,000 cases but admits the real number could be much higher.

The often deadly virus is spread only through direct contact with the bodily fluids of an infected person showing symptoms such as fever or vomiting.

Violent husband ‘fitted tracker inside his wife'

A Pakistani woman was drugged and surgically fitted with a tracking device by her jealous and abusive husband, she has told a court.

An abused Pakistani wife has claimed her husband drugged her and had a tracking device fitted inside her body so he could stalk her, a court has heard.

Police in Ghaziabad have registered a case against her husband, named as Saleem, after the Lahore High Court ordered an inquiry into her allegations.

Chaudhry Irfan of Ghaziabad Police said the victim had scarring from stitches sewn unti her abdomen recently.

The woman, Sughran Bibi, had separated from her husband earlier this year after he and a magistrate friend raped her following a heavy drinking session.

Ms Bibi claimed that shortly after she left him, her husband and an accomplice arrived at her new home and knocked her unconscious with a chloroform rag.

When she woke up she was in hospital with surgical stitches on her abdomen.

Following the assault and her mysterious hospital procedure, her husband seemed to know where she was at all times and was able to follow her at will.

He allegedly made several attempts to blackmail her after stalking her.

Justice Kazim Raza Shamsi ordered the police to register an assault case against her husband and to investigate Ms Bibi’s claims.

Women’s rights campaigners said her case highlighted the need for a domestic violence act in Pakistan because the law favours men.

“We have been demanding that the government pass the domestic violence act so that the perpetrators can be punished,” said Rukhshanda Naz.

The government’s failure to recognise domestic violence as a crime has created a culture of impunity in which men have harassed, beaten and even killed their wives without punishment, she added.

Police investigating Ms Bibi’s claims should also question the doctors at the hospital she found herself in on “how they installed a device in her stomach without her consent”, she said.

Driver Sentenced To Death By Hanging For Armed Robbery, Kidnapping

A 43-year old commercial bus driver, Peter Onwusiribekan has been sentenced to death by hanging by an Effurun High Court, Delta state, for robbing a female nurse of her car.

The convict, said to be from Mbanor Local Government Area of Imo state, was found guilty of three count charge of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, the substantive offence of armed robbery which is a capital offence and kidnapping.

He was therefore sentenced to death on count two while he got 2 years imprisonment for count one and 5 years
on count three respectively.

The court had earlier heard that the accused and two others now at large on or about the 5th day of December, 2011, kidnapped one female Nurse (Name withheld), of Ekpan General Hospital and held her for three days before she was released.

It could however not be ascertained if any ransom was paid before she regained freedom and dropped along the Orerokpe-Eku road where she was later found.

Prosecution from the Delta State Ministry of Justice had told the court that the accused with his gang members now on the run also robbed the nurse of her Toyota Corolla Salon car while armed with guns.

The incidence happened within the Ekpan General Hospital, Ekpan, when the nurse was about driving out of the hospital premises having closed from duty.

Recounting her ordeal in the hands of her abductors, the nurse told the court in her evidence that: “I was about driving out of the premises when suddenly, the two men came from no where and pointed guns at me, pushed me to the back seat and drove off to an unknown destination.”

The accused was arrested in possession of the robbed car by a Special Anti-Robbery Squad during a routine stop and search operation along the Ughelli-Port Harcourt Highway, two days after the robbery operation.

The court in its judgment, relied on Doctrine of Recent Possession‎ which states that any person found in possession of any recent stolen property is presumed to be the thief except was able to give cogent and reasonable explanations, but added that in this circumstance, the accused was unable to give satisfactory explanations on how he came in possession of the robbed car.

“I do not have discretion in respect of count two (armed robbery) as the Law is certain. I hereby sentence you to death by hanging on the neck until you be dead. May God have mercy on your soul,” the court held.

Fleeing UK murder suspect arrested in Nigeria

The Nigeria Police on Wednesday announced that its intelligence operatives have arrested a wanted murder suspect in the United Kingdom, Jeffery Azuka Okafor, a 23 years old Nigerian who fled to Nigeria after the alleged murder of one Carl Beatson Asiedu on 1st August 2009 in London.

In a statement, Emmanuel Ojukwu, spokesperson for the Nigeria Police said the suspect was arrested on 23rd September, 2014 in Asaba, Delta State. The Police said the accused had tried to evade arrest by frequently changing of his identity and locations, but operatives were still able to keep a tab on him without raising any suspicion.

Ojukwu said in the statement that the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba particularly praised the high level of Professionalism displayed by the Police operatives as well as the effective deployment of the Forces’ high tech-equipment in tracking the suspect. The Police Spokesperson also revealed that all the necessary required procedures to enable the handover of the fugitive to the UK Authorities have already been concluded.

“The IGP further assures the International law enforcement communities that the Nigeria Police Force will always ensure that all fugitives that show up in Nigeria would be apprehended upon request and turned over accordingly,” he added.

Police arraign ‘mad man’ for impersonation

The Police on Wednesday, arraigned a 22-year-old labourer, Abubakar Abbas in a Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Wuse Abuja, for alleged impersonation.

Abbas, who resides at Gwagwalada, Abuja, was accused of wearing a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) uniform when he was arrested.

He was later identified by his brothers who claimed that the accused was insane.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Francis Tanko, told the court that on Oct. 23, at about 5.50 p.m. a patrol team of policemen arrested and brought Abbas to Wuse Police Station.

He said that Abbas was arrested on Herbert Macaulay Way, Wuse, Abuja wearing NYSC uniform, thereby impersonating as a corps member, contrary to the provision of Section 132 of the Penal Code Law.

When the charge was read to him, the accused kept mute, neither pleading guilty or not guilty.

In spite of that, the prosecutor prayed the court to grant him a date to open his case against the accused.

The Magistrate, Mr Aliyu Shafa granted the accused bail of N50, 000 and a reasonable surety in like sum.

Shafa said the surety must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court.

He also ordered Abbas’ relatives to provide the medical certificate confirming his mental status on or before the next adjourned date.

The magistrate adjourned the matter till Jan. 12, 2015 for hearing

Turkey's president moves into world's biggest palace costing £384 million

Turkey’s new president has been accused of behaving like a “sultan” after he installed himself in the biggest residential palace in the world, built for a price tag of £384 million.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan now resides in the White Palace, which was constructed in breach of court orders in protected forest land in the capital, Ankara.

Boasting 1,000 rooms covering a total floor area of 3.1 million square feet, the palace is four times the size of Versailles, allowing Mr Erdogan to exceed the residential grandeur of Louis XIV, the “Sun King” of France.

Inside the palace, a majestic hallway leads up to a sweeping staircase. The quixotic architectural style seems to cross the Ottoman and Seljuk traditions with that of a modern Chinese railway station. The bathrooms have silk wallpaper and the whole edifice is surrounded by a forested park. Hundreds of trees were felled to make way for the president’s new home.

Mr Erdogan, who designed much of the White Palace himself, has also taken the precaution of installing an underground bunker.

Mehmet Simsek, the Turkish finance minister, said the total cost of the complex amounted to £384 million – twice the earlier estimate.

Critics of Mr Erdogan, who won the presidency in August, denounced the project as a folie de grandeur. “The so-called sultan has built this for himself in a country where three million people are without work,” said Kemal Kilicdaroglu, the leader of the opposition Republican People’s party. “You cut down hundreds of trees to build yourself this palace.”

Mr Erdogan served as prime minister for 11 years before ascending to the presidency. Although his AK party does not hold the two thirds majority in parliament required to amend the constitution, his ambition is to turn this traditionally ceremonial post into the new centre of power in Turkey.

Unlike all previous presidents, Mr Erdogan routinely chairs cabinet meetings. He has also spent £115 million on a new presidential jet, designed and supplied by Airbus to his own specification.

As for critics of his new palace, Mr Erdogan said: “No one can prevent the completion of this building. If they are powerful enough, let them come and demolish it.”

This harmless picture of a woman in a bikini has sparked outrage

THIS BUSTY judge has thrown off her robes and posted saucy online snaps that have landed her in hot water.

Women's groups have also been outraged by the picture.

Natalia Cebotari, 32, from a parliamentary group set up to look at equality for women, said: "She has done very well to get where she has, but one can’t help feel that by showing off her body like this, she is encouraging other women to flaunt what they have if they want to get ahead.

"No one is saying that this is what she did, but it could give out the wrong impression."

Molly Shattuck, Oldest NFL Cheerleader, Accused of Sex with 15-Year-Old

Molly Shattuck is used to being in the limelight.

The 5'4" blonde made international news in 2005 when she landed a spot on the Baltimore Ravens' cheerleading squad. Then 38, she had become the NFL's oldest cheerleader. (Other members of the squad called her "Mama Molly.")

But Shattuck is now getting attention of a different kind – and it's not good.

According to police in Sussex County, Delaware, the 47-year-old is accused of having sex with a 15-year-old whom she met on Instagram. On Monday, a grand jury indicted her on nine counts: two counts of third-degree rape, four counts of unlawful sexual contact, and three counts of distributing alcohol to a minor.

According to documents obtained by multiple local news outlets, Shattuck found a 15-year-old on Instagram and gave him her number. From there, cops say that Shattuck and the boy developed a relationship that turned sexual over the summer.

According to WBAL-TV in Baltimore, the documents say that Shattuck performed oral sex on the boy and told him, "If he wanted to have sex, she would. The boy opted out. He decided to leave. At that point, she told him to come back later but he did not go back."

Investigators executed a search warrant at Shattuck's $2.5 million home in Roland Park, Maryland, but have not released what, if anything, they have found.

On Wednesday morning, Shattuck turned herself in to the Sussex County Court in Georgetown, Delaware. She pleaded not guilty and was released on $84,000 bail. She has been ordered not to have any contact with minors, except for her own three children.

Sexually-transmitted infections, alcohol can ruin your kidneys

The average person knows that he possesses a pair of kidneys as part of his biological make-up, but many people are ignorant of the fact that these organs wield enormous power that could determine whether an individual lives or not.

The truth is that the kidneys can fail, get injured, become infected or ultimately need to be replaced.

Why are kidneys so important to our wellbeing, you may ask. General Practitioner, Dr. Oladele Falade, says kidneys are responsible for filtering waste products from the blood, while they are also involved in regulating the blood pressure, as well as the production of red blood cells in the body.

He notes that problems arise when the kidneys, for various reasons, can no longer filter waste products from the blood, causing such to build up in the body.

“When this happens, the individual may start experiencing weakness, shortness of breath, lethargy and confusion,” Falade says.

He adds that it’s not necessarily every individual that experiences any or all of these symptoms that has kidney issue. However, he says it’s one of the reasons physicians always recommend periodic medical tests for people, especially when they reach certain milestones in terms of age.

Sex and the kidneys

As for those who are sexually active, physicians say certain sexually-transmitted infections such as Chlamydia and syphilis can lead to kidney problems.

“If left untreated, Chlamydia can cause serious problems later in life, including the narrowing of the urethra (urethral stricture), such that it becomes difficult to urinate properly, creating pressure which may damage the kidneys.

“Ditto the urinary tract infections. If left untreated, UTIs can spread to the kidneys and permanently damage them. Again, syphilis is another sexually-transmitted disease that, if left untreated, can lead to serious health problems that can also affect the liver, kidneys and eyes, or cause meningitis,” Falade explains.

He notes that when it comes to your health, the watchword is caution. “Caution in the way you live, and these include your dietary and sexual habits. A devil-may-care attitude that runs against common sense can cost you your health, such as the one involving your kidneys,” the physician enthuses.

Alcohol and the kidneys

Talking about dietary habits, a dietitian, Mrs. Rita Imasuen, says alcohol is never a friend of the kidneys. And while she does not say, outright, that people may not take alcoholic beverage, she laments that many people don’t know when to stop, and that that is why many alcoholics come down with kidney failure in the long run.

Indeed, experts at the online portal, kidney.org, warn that alcohol can cause changes in the function of the kidneys and make them less able to filter the blood.

They say, “In addition to filtering blood, kidneys do many other important jobs. One of these jobs is keeping the right amount of water in the body. Alcohol affects the ability of the kidneys to do this. When alcohol dehydrates (dries out) the body, the drying effect can affect the normal function of cells and organs, including the kidneys.”

Again, physicians warn, alcohol can negatively impact blood pressure, as people who imbibe are very likely to also suffer from high blood pressure.

“High blood pressure is a common cause of kidney disease,” Falade warns. He adds that chronic drinking can also cause liver disease.

“This adds to the kidney’s job, as liver disease impairs the balancing act of keeping the rate of blood flow to your kidneys at a certain level, so that your kidneys can filter your blood well. And clinical presentation shows that most patients who have both liver disease and associated kidney dysfunction are also chronic alcohol users,” the physician notes.

Not a joking matter

Experts say by the time the kidneys of an individual develop problems, so many things — including the patient’s life — are at stake. They warn that “renal insufficiency” begins when the kidneys fail to adequately filter waste products from the blood.

“The two main forms of renal insufficiency are acute kidney injury, which is often reversible with adequate treatment; and chronic kidney disease, which is often irreversible,” Falade explains.

He notes that many people who have chronic kidney disease don’t even know that they have it because the early signs can be very subtle. “It can take many years to go from chronic kidney disease to kidney failure,” experts say.

Symptoms of kidney disease

Since kidneys make urine, experts say one of the first signs that all may not be well with your kidneys is frequent urination, and the urine may be foamy or bubbly.

“The urine may be more or less, but definitely with unnatural colours, as the urine may contain blood, and the patient may even find it difficult to pass urine!” Falade enthuses.

He says later in the stage of the disease, extra fluid builds up in the body, causing swelling in the legs, ankles, feet, face, and hands.

“Gradually, the patient may start experiencing more tiredness (fatigue) all the time, and he may also develop skin rash and severe itching. All these are due to the build-up of wastes in the bloodstream,” the doctor says.

As time goes on, Falade says, even favourite meals start tasting odd, and the patient may also develop foul breath. “He may also become nauseated and experience bouts of vomiting on a regular basis. And since extra fluid can build up in the lungs, the patient may also experience shortness of breath.

“As the blood level falls as a result of anaemia, the patient experiences cold, even in warm weather. Dizziness and light-headedness are also part of the evil bargain, while the patient may also have trouble concentrating,” experts say.

The bottom line: Since ageing increases the risk of inflammation or swelling of the kidneys, researchers say older people are more at risk of some kidney and urinary tract disease.

“This being the case, I advise anyone over the age of 40 to do regular medical check-ups so as to ascertain their state of health and keep diseases at bay,” Falade submits.

EFCC recovers $11bn stolen funds in 11 years

The Head of Media and Publicity of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, has said that the commission has recovered a total of $11bn from its inception in 2003.

Uwujaren also said that the commission had handled a lot of cases involving advanced free fraud, money laundering, contract scam, internet fraud and had recorded over 100 convictions.

The EFCC Spokesman made the comment while speaking at the Forum of Spokespersons of Security and Response Agencies organised by the I-Nigeria Initiative led by Mrs. Ada Apiaffi, in Abuja on Wednesday.
“As most of you are aware, the commission has the statutory responsibility for the investigation of all economic and financial crimes…
“In the last eleven years we have been in operation, we have handled thousands of cases in these areas and I want to report that we have recorded over 100 convictions  as a result of our investigations.

“In terms of assets recovery, we have recovered assets of well over $11bn in 11 years and I think that is a record,” he said.

Uwujaren said the EFCC had also created a new unit known as Combined Inter Agency Task Force section entrusted with the responsibility of ‘maximising the opportunities of international law enforcement partnership for the benefit of the commission and by extension, the nation.’

He stated that the EFCC’s relationship with international law enforcement organisations and development partners had witnessed a boost because of the confidence of such partners on the commission’s activities.

Uwujaren said that the EFCC had also recovered over N5bn from those implicated in the subsidy scam and was making efforts to bring the suspects to justice.

The EFCC Spokesman said that the commission had not dropped the case against the impeached Governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako.

According to him, the commission was still investigating the case against the former governor stressing that nothing had gone wrong with the on-going investigation.

Research Shows This One Plant Kills Cancer And Stops Diabetes

According to Dr. Frank Shallenberger, when it comes to fighting cancer, he’s always looking for natural substances that interrupt the odd metabolism of cancer cells. Some of his discoveries include resveratrol, green tea, Seanol, and others. Most recently, he found a fruit that was effective in killing pancreatic cancer cells. The fruit is called “bitter melon” and is popular in Okinawa, Japan.

When bitter melon juice is diluted to 5% in water, it proved itself to be incredibly damaging to pancreatic cancer cell lines. According to researchers, bitter melon juice reduced the viability of two cancer cell lines by 90% and killed the remaining two lines at a rate of 98%.

So, great, these studies work in cancer cells in a dish. But do they work in animals? Will they work in people? Apparently yes. University of Colorado researchers administered bitter melon doses to mice and found a 64% reduction in pancreatic tumor size without any kind of side effect.

The dose was the same as six grams of powder for the average sized human. Bitter melon may also help diabetics. Researchers found that bitter melon helps ameliorate metabolic problems by its effects on glucose metabolism.

Of course, if you have cancer or diabetes, talk with your doctor about rolling in bitter melon treatment with other treatments to have the highest rate of success against cancer.

California mosque hit by several gunshots

Southern California authorities say a mosque in the desert city of Coachella was struck by gunfire.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department says a report of shots fired was received at 5:01 am Tuesday and responding officers determined that several shots struck the Islamic Society of Coachella Valley building and a vehicle. No injuries were reported, however.

A Sheriff’s Department statement says the incident is being investigated as a possible hate crime.

A regional office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations has issued a statement calling for an FBI investigation.

Coachella is southeast of Palm Springs.

Flights disrupted, passengers stranded at Sri Lanka airport after strike

Over 2,000 passengers were stranded at Sri Lanka’s main airport here for hours after several flights were disrupted due to a strike launched by employees seeking a salary hike.

Four passenger flights that have landed at the airport were kept waiting for several hours as the jet bridges cannot be connected for the passengers to disembark as a result of the strike, sources at the airport said.

The strike that was launched last evening has brought the operations at the Bandaranaike International Airport to a complete halt. According to airport officials, the baggage belts have stopped running and the arriving passengers have faced severe difficulties.
It was reported that about 2,000 passengers were waiting inside the airport for clearance.
Several flight departures were delayed leaving passengers stranded.

The strike was launched by Nidahas Sevaka Sangamaya employees, affiliated to the dominant party of the ruling Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
The strike was later called off. Deepal Perera, a trade union leader said they were demanding a rupees 10,000 pay hike.

“We hope to have discussions on our demand for 10,000 rupee salary increase”, Perera said.
The authorities accused the strikers of disconnecting electricity power supply at the airport.

This has forced the immigration officials to halt electronic operations and work manually, officials said.
The control tower of the airport was operating and could facilitate the landing of inbound flights although the departures are delayed, officials said.

The national carrier Sri Lankan Airlines said two outbound flights to Shanghai and London have been delayed.

Meanwhile, the British High Commission in Colombo advised travellers to check with the airlines before heading to the airport.

Saudi beheads Pakistani drug smuggler

Saudi Arabia beheaded a Pakistani on Wednesday for trafficking heroin hidden in his stomach into the kingdom, the interior ministry said, the latest in dozens of executions this year.

Mohammed Sadiq Hanif was arrested during his attempt to smuggle “a large amount” of heroin, the ministry said in a statement carried by the official SPA news agency.

Last month, Saudi authorities beheaded four Pakistanis convicted of smuggling heroin into the kingdom.

The beheading Wednesday in the eastern town of Khubar raises to 63 the number of death sentences carried out in the kingdom this year, despite international concern.

A United Nations independent expert called in September for an immediate moratorium on the death penalty in Saudi Arabia.

Christof Heyns, the UN special rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, said trials “are by all accounts grossly unfair” and defendants are often not allowed a lawyer.

He said confessions were obtained under torture.

Rape, murder, apostasy, armed robbery and drug trafficking are all punishable by death under Saudi Arabia’s strict version of Islamic sharia law.

Keshi Rejects Garba Lawal As Eagles' Coordinator

Less than two weeks after Stephen Keshi was restored as the head coach of the Super Eagles, latest reports indicate that the former Eagles’ captain and the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, may have clashed once again.

Less than two weeks after Stephen Keshi was restored as the head coach of the Super Eagles, latest reports indicate that the former Eagles’ captain and the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, may have clashed once again.

According to Guardian newspaper report, the latest clash between Keshi and the NFF is as a result of some appointments made by the new board of the football house while Keshi was relieved of his duty.

It was gathered that among the changes made while Keshi was sacked included the appointment of ex-international, Garba Lawal, as the Super Eagles’ team co-ordinator.

Emmanuel Attah was the co-ordinator of the Eagles before the Amaju Pinnick led NFF board appointed Lawal.

Investigation revealed that Keshi, who has overturned all appointments made by the NFF, has also asked that Lawal be replaced.

It  would be recalled that it was President Goodluck Jonathan that restored Keshi to his duty post as Super Eagles coach in preparation for the make or break qualifiers against Congo and South Africa.

Critics are of the opinion that Keshi’s refusal to work with his subordinates appointed by the NFF clearly shows that he is now more powerful than the NFF, his supposed employers.

A coach has the right to appoint his technical assistants, but the appointment of other backroom staff like team coordinator, media officer is the duty of the NFF, one of Keshi critics said.

However, it was no secret that Lawal was one of Keshi’s biggest critics following Eagles’ poor start to the 2015 Nations Cup qualifiers.

A source in the Eagle’s camp in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, informed that Keshi was not ready to work with Lawal as the team co-ordinator.

“Keshi is not the type to hold a grudge but I can tell you he wants Garba Lawal out,” a report by SL10.ng said.

“He is not asking for Emmanuel Attah (former team co-ordinator) to be re-appointed, but just anybody, not Garba Lawal, who devoted all of his time working against Keshi.”

Lawal was credited as saying he doesn’t care about Keshi returning as coach and said he has no regret leading calls for his sack earlier.

Speaking on the matter, NFF President, Amanju Pinnick, told Guardian on Tuesday that he was not aware of any cold war between Keshi and Lawal in Eagles’ camp.

Pinnick said: “I don’t know where such report is coming from. I am not aware of any problem between Keshi and Lawal. I have a meeting with Keshi in the next 30 minutes.”
