Kelechi Iheanacho To Miss Rio Olympics To Link Up With Guardiola At Man City

Nigerian international Kelechi Iheanacho will not take part in Nigeria’s football medal hunt in Rio Olympics after new Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola expressed his desire to have him available for the start of the season.

The 19-year-old was named in coach Samson Siasia’s provisional 35 man squad on June 24.

The Summer Olympic Games begin on 5 August and end on 21 August, so if Iheanacho was to play, he would miss the final weeks of Guardiola’s preparation for the new season as well as the beginning of the season.

Iheanacho has reportedly accepted Guardiola’s decision and is looking forward to the start of the season.

The forward enjoyed a breakthrough last season, scoring 14 times in 35 appearances.

He will compete with Argentina’s Sergio Aguero and Spain’s Nolito for a place in the team.
