Apparently worried by the purported recent transfer of Boko Haram suspects to Anambra State, the South-East governors have called on the Federal Government to reconsider the relocation.
Briefing journalists on Sunday after the meeting of South-East governors in Owerri, Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, stated that the suspects should have been relocated to any northern part of the country instead of the South-East.
The meeting was attended by Enugu State Governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; Abia State Governor, Mr. Okezie Ikpeazu; and the Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, Dr. Kelechi Igwe.
“The relocation of the suspects to the southeastern part of Nigeria has been worrying the minds of the people of the South-East,” Okorocha said.
The governors called on the Federal Government to compensate the Igbo, who ran back to the South-East after being displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency.
Okorocha, who is the Chairman, All Progressives Congress Governors’ Forum, dissociated governments of the South-East from Radio Biafra.
He said the governors of the zone had resolved to make Enugu the headquarters of the South-East because of the state’s political history.
He added that the South-East governors had endorsed Abia State as the economic hub of the zone.
“The endorsement of Abia State as the economic hub of the South-East is to promote commercial activities in the zone as the people are predominantly businessmen and women,” he said.
Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, was absent at the meeting.
