Kaduna State governor during the defunct Second Republic, Alhaji Balarabe Musa yesterday challenged Governor Nasir el-Rufai to declare his assets publicly if he doesn’t worth N90billion and own 40 mansions as alleged.
The elder statesman in a chat with newsmen in Kaduna, said if the governor is not actually worth what was alleged, or is denying what people are saying, then he should tell the public the truth.
He said failure of el-Rufai to declare his asset publicly makes him not credible to fight corruption in the state.
He said that there are thieves in Kaduna but el-Rufai can’t fight corruption and succeed when he has skeleton in his cupboard.
According to him, “There are thieves in Kaduna State, what is he going to do about people who have stolen government property? He himself has declared his asset now alleged to be N90 billion and about 40 houses in Kaduna and other places. He should declare his assets publicly. But when people got information that he secretly declared the alleged amount, he denied it.
“Then let him go and declare it publicly. He made declaration in writing to Code of Conduct Bureau. Let him release the copy of declaration he made to the bureau to the press and if he doesn’t want to release it to the press for any reason let him say no I’m not worth N90 billion in cash and 40 houses. This is what I’m worth. If you say what people are saying is not true, then tell us the truth. As a public servant, you are expected to tell the truth about yourself and about the public office under your control.
