This may be the world’s most stubborn homeowner.
In an incredibly visual display of resistance to the Chinese authorities, one homeowner in Nanning has refused to let his home be demolished for almost a decade – even though it sits in the middle of a road and he doesn’t even live there.
The ‘nail house’ – named because it sticks out from the land like a single nail – is one of a number of similar properties, the owners of which hold out in the hope of getting more money in compensation.
The Nanning nail house is the last remaining property from a village demolished and relocated in the late 90s.
‘We don’t know why the house can’t be dismantled,’ said Mr Huang, one of the local residents who must drive around the house daily on their way to work.
