E-Money
As the head honcho of Five Star Music, Emeka Okonkwo is also the elder brother to music star, Kcee. Popularly known as E-Money, he is best described as a silent achiever. The publicity-shy business mogul opens up on his love for entertainment. Why are you called E money?
My name is Emeka Okonkwo, but E Money is a nickname.
How did you develop an interest in entertainment?
I have always loved entertainment right from childhood, probably because my dad was a disc jockey and he had a store where he sold music materials. I have never considered becoming an artiste, because I am comfortable at the background. I prefer to make stars out of people. I started as a songwriter and composer.
Did you see your brother becoming a household name?
I saw it coming, but I never imagined it would happen this soon. I am still overwhelmed. We started as KC Presh and I was their manager. Apart from music, I do business- I import goods and cars. I am a licensed Nigeria Customs Service agent.
Did you ever consider quitting music business?
In 2010, we released some songs and shot a number of videos, but none of them became a hit. We were not yet household names and did not have the attention we wanted. The release of ‘Limpopo’ in 2013 was a turning point. It was a major breakthrough and it made us feel good.
What is unique about Five Star Music?
We are more like family and not business partners. We do things in a unique way and always look out for each other. The inspiration is that whatever we do will be classy and of international standard.
…and your love for luxury and extravagant living?
From the onset even before we had our breakthrough, I had already developed a predilection for luxury and flamboyant living.
How do you like to dress and who are your favourite designers?
I do not like to patronise foreign designers so I prefer traditional attire, jeans and jackets. I prefer to customise my outfits and I love hats. I love to look simple and nice.
Do you work out?
I exercise and keep fit.
How do you create time for your family?
They are resident in the UK because they school their and I visit them twice a month. I have three sons and lovely wife
