Most searched for p*rn star Mia Khalifa causing stir, dividing Lebanon

Lebanese porn star Mia Khalifa is the most searched for name on at least one adult website.


SOCIAL media in Lebanon is fighting on moral grounds over the rise of 21-year-old homegrown porn star Mia Khalifa.

The country of just four million is divided over the popular Lebanese-American who was born in Lebanon but now lives among the glitz and glamour of Miami’s South Beach.

NBC News reports that Khalifa recently became the most searched for adult performer on one adult website.

In a number of clips, Khalifa is seen performing sexual acts while wearing the hijab. Naturally, some don’t approve.

Twitter user Frunc wrote “Hijab is something holy, and beautiful, having sex on camera with it is degrading its meaning”.

Khalifa responded on Twitter, posting “Doesn’t the Middle East have more important things to worry about besides me?”

Juliana Yazbeck, writing for NOW Lebanon, said she worried what effect Khalifa’s new-found fame might have for women in Lebanon.

“It never even crossed my mind to think, ‘she doesn’t have the right.’ What did cross my mind was: ‘Really? Of the very few Lebanese women who are making global headlines, it had to be a porn star?’,” she said.

But there is also plenty of support for Khalifa.

Ronald Koukjian posted on Twitter to defend Khalifa.

“Not proud being Lebanese after all the stupid comments about @miakhalifa,” he wrote. “Leave this girl alone. This is her life.”
