Former head of state, Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential
candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said he will not
have an office for first lady if he is elected into power in the
forthcoming 2015 elections.
Giving his reason, Buhari said there is no office of first lady in the Nigerian constitution and there is no official role for presidents’ wives.
He disclosed this during an exclusive interview with Weekly Trust in Kaduna.

According to him, there are ministries which are constitutional
like the Ministry of Women Affairs and they should be allowed to play
their roles.
He added that women would however play an important role in his administration as he knows what they can do if given the opportunity.
“I was raised by my mother, as I lost my father when I was under six years, so I know what a woman can do if given the chance,” Buhari said.
He explained that he had the greatest respect for women.
