Indian authorities have placed an Ebola survivor under quarantine after his semen tested positive for the disease.

The patient, a 26-year-old Indian, arrived New Delhi on November 10 after being treated for the disease in Liberia.

India's health ministry said in a statement that the man has been discharged from a Liberian hospital on September 30 after being declared Ebola-free.

However, health officials, as a precautionary measure, decided to test him again on arrival in India and discovered traces of the virus in his semen.

"Currently, this person is not having any symptoms of the disease. However, he would be kept under isolation in the special health facility of (the) Delhi Airport Health Organization, till such time his body fluids test negative and he is found medically fit to be discharged," the statement read.

More than 5000 people have died from Ebola in the current outbreak which is the worst ever recorded.
