Woman mum dumps day-old baby inside canal in Ado-Ekiti

It was a rain of curses in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital yesterday where an anonymous mother dumped a day-old baby inside a canal located at Ijigbo-Atikankan junction.

The baby which still had his placenta intact was believed to have been dumped their shortly after delivery in the early hours of the day had died before daybreak.

As at 9.00 am when a huge crowd had massed at the scene to catch a glimpse of the dead baby, the body had become swollen.

Road construction causes accident on Lagos-Ibadan expressway, 18 feared dead



No fewer than eighteen passengers of a commercial bus and the driver lost their lives on Sunday as the bus had a head-on collision with a tanker on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, towards the Fidiwo/Ajebo area.

Senate passes bill compelling government to buy made-in-Nigeria products



The Upper Chamber of the National Assembly on Thursday passed into law the Public Procurement Act 20‎07 (amendment) bill 2016, which makes it mandatory for government agencies to patronize made-in-Nigeria goods.

The Act, which seeks to promote local content, is one of the priority bills of the Senator Bukola Saraki-led Senate.

The police in Ogun State have arrested a hairdresser, Kudirat Oyediran, for allegedly inflicting injuries on her stepdaughter, Rachael Oyediran.

It was learnt that 32-year-old Kudirat allegedly tortured the five-year-old for bed-wetting and disobedience.

Driving more than an hour a day can lead to weight gain - study


The study, from the Australian Catholic University's Institute of Health and Ageing, looked at the driving habits of 2,800 adults taking part in the Australian Diabetes, Obesity and Lifestyle study.

Man who threatened to divorce wife over her addiction to Telemundo changes his mind


Mr Chibuzor Eze, who threatened to divorce his wife few weeks ago over her addiction to popular foreign soap opera channels, Telemundo and Zeeworld has dropped the threats earlier made.

In Memphis, Tennessee, Myneshia Johnson, 18, a student athlete and future college student, was shot and killed days before she was set to graduate from high school. Her family is saddened and in disbelief.

Protesters block Lagos road as policewoman kills driver



Motorists and youths blocked the Igando end of the Lagos State University-Iyana Iba Road on Monday to protest against the alleged killing of a commercial driver, identified as Muyiwa Ijaduola, by a female police corporal attached to the Igando Police Division.

The protesters, who burnt tyres and planks at about 11am, blocked the road with three buses, demanding that the police should arrest the female corporal, identified only as Taiwo, and release Ijaduola’s corpse to his family members.

A businessman identified as Fortune, who was kidnapped alongside his childhood friend, Jane, on May 11, 2016, said they were tortured for giving their captors expired ATM card.

Fortune, who was rescued alongside with Jane by operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps in Rivers State, said they were kidnapped after his stolen car was recovered by the police.
He explained that he had called Jane to escort him to Kalla Police Station, adding that they were accosted by the hoodlums on their way to retrieve the car from Kalla Police Station.

Oklahoma Legislature Passes Bill Making It A Felony To Perform Abortions

Oklahoma’s legislature passed a first-in-the-nation law that would make it a felony for abortion providers to perform or induce the procedure.

Senate Bill 1552 now heads to the desk of Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin. It contains no exceptions for cases of rape and incest or to protect the health of a pregnant person. (Abortions necessary to save the mother’s life are acceptable under the law.) Doctors would be barred from obtaining a license to practice medicine in the state if they violated the law, which refers to performing an abortion as “unprofessional conduct.” The minimum punishment for the law would be one year in jail.
