PHOTOS: Saloon manager freezes to death after she got trapped in a cryochamber

A young Nevada salon manager was found dead inside a cryochamber, where temperatures reached 240 degrees Fahrenheit below zero, authorities say.
Chelsea Ake’s body was found by employees inside one of the ice machines at Rejuvenice in Henderson, Nev., according to TV station KSNV.
The 24-year-old went into one of the stations by herself while closing up the store alone, her friend Shae-Lynn Bee told the station. She did not turn the machine off before entering, Bee added.

“It’s very frustrating to know because there are no cameras in there so basically the only person that does know what happened is Chelsea,

Ake, a Hawaii native, is believed to have suffocated and was in the chamber for at least 10 hours, authorities said.Investigators ruled the death as “operator error” indicating it did not malfunction.
Whole-body cryotherapy is used to cool the body and is an alternative to ice packs and cold water immersion.
It is only meant to be used for up to three minutes and is popular among athletes who use it for muscle soreness.

I Want to Draw Blood with My New Book - Wole Soyinka

Playwright and Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has said he wants to ‘draw blood’ with his latest book, ‘Interinventions.’

He explained that the book was his tool of ‘vengeance’ against what he termed ‘unprovoked assault of public lies’ many of which he claimed were directed at him.

Making his remarks at the formal inauguration of The Wole Soyinka Foundation yesterday at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Abeokuta, Ogun State said:

InterInventions, is the nastiest book I have ever written. It is my vengeance against public lies. It is not one of the butterfly books.

I want to draw blood (with it). I’m warning all of you, if you feel vengeful, read this book and you will be alright. It is like homeopathic medicine. It is so truthful that it hurts.”

The 130-page literary work — InterInventions, Between Defective Memory and Public Lie, A Personal Odyssey in The Republic of Liars was presented to the public by the Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole.

Forget red meat - you're more likely to get bowel cancer from eating CHOCOLATE

We are constantly being told by health charities and some nutritionists that too much red meat causes bowel cancer.

Indeed, the Department of Health warns committed carnivores to cut down to 70g a day.

But meat has been unfairly demonised, according to Roger Leicester, Director of Endoscopy at St George's Hospital and director of the SW London Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.

In fact, Mr Leicester, who is also a former secretary of the British Society of Gastroenterology, says cutting out red meat is known to cause iron deficiency.

Here, he explains why chocolate - full of sugar and fat - is a more likely cancer-causing culprit...

The next time you feel guilty about chomping on a juicy steak, don't.

I say this because there has been no clear published evidence to implicate lean red meat in causing cancer - despite the constant warnings from charities and scientists.

In fact, in my opinion, chocolate could be more of a danger.

Very high intakes of sugar and saturated fat are much more of a problem, but no one ever suggests we should give up chocolate, which is laden with sugar loaded with fat.

That would be too unpopular.

Man is an omnivore. Red meat is very much part of my diet, and I eat it four or five times a week.

You can’t beat a good steak, or a Sunday roast beef, and a bacon butty is usually on the menu at the weekend.

All the scaremongering around meat seems to have started with a study back in the Seventies which showed that Seventh Day Adventists — who are vegetarians — had a slightly lower risk of bowel cancer than the general population.

But you cannot possibly claim this is proof that meat causes cancer because Seventh Day Adventists don't drink alcohol or smoke and most of them even avoid coffee and hot condiments and spices.

It is very poor science to isolate one aspect of such a restrictive diet and make sweeping claims about cancer risk.

Dietary studies are notoriously inaccurate.

'Very high intakes of sugar and saturated fat are much more of a problem, but no one ever suggests we should give up chocolate, which is laden with sugar loaded with fat,' Mr Leicester added

They rely on people remembering what they ate and they take no account of how foods are cooked, not to mention other lifestyle factors.

Another study that is often used to claim a link between meat consumption and bowel cancer is the ongoing EPIC study.

This is a big European research project which compared southern and northern Europeans and found a small association between consumption of red and processed meat and bowel cancer.

But southern and northern Europeans have very different diets and lifestyles. More details please click HERE

Hackers Steal N8m from Vice President Osinbajo’s Bank Account

Policemen attached to the Special Anti- Robbery Squad (SARS) Ikeja are investigating an alleged theft of N8million from Vice President Yemi Osibajo’s bank account.

It was gathered that two undergraduate students of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka identified as Ebuka Orumba, a final year 500level student of Environmental Science and Patrick Nwafor, a final year Computer Engineering student allegedly hacked into the account of Simmons Cooper Partner, a law firm said to belong to Vice President Osibajo and allegedly stole eight million naira (N8miilion) from it.

NationalMirror reports that the students used fraudulent means to hack into the email of the Account manager of the VP’s law firm, one Mr. Tunde Irukera, and they allegedly sent a mail to UBA PLC branch to one Obuba Fidelia on July 2nd instructing the bank to transfer eight million naira from Simmions Cooper Bank account to three different bank accounts they opened for the fraud.

It was further gathered that the undergraduates allegedly connived with a tricycle rider one Artor Kalu to open a bank account with Zenith bank account number 2086943174 where three million naira (N3,000,000) was transferred to with the false name Engineer Asukwo Okoro.

The remaining amounts were said to have been transferred to two other unnamed bank accounts. Luck however ran out on the undergraduates when their alleged gang member, Mr. Kalu went to the Zenith bank account at Mushin to withdraw the N3,000,000 but was nabbed by detectives from SARS following a tip off from the bank.

The police subsequently arrested Kalu and following his statement, the police arrested Orumba but Nwafor escaped. Following the investigation, the police discovered that Kalu with the help of others got a fake Driver’s license which he used to open the Zenith Bank account.

The police has since charged Orumba and Kalu to court on a 5 count charge on conspiracy, stealing and fraud while efforts is on to arrest Nwafor whom the others claimed to be the mastermind of the fraud.

Desmond Elliot Reveals Why He Hid His Yoruba Identity From Nollywood

When actor Desmond Elliot came out with Sola as his Yoruba name ahead of the 2015 Lagos State House of Assembly election, it was largely seen as a deliberate move to win sympathy from the electorate.

But he carried on and won as a representative of Surulere Constituency. OLUSHOLA RICKETTS met with the actor turned-politician recently at a filmmakers’ forum in Lagos.

A fortunate child

Luck comes the way of some people easily and Desmond Elliot sees himself as one of those fortunate people in life. His journey into acting was rough, though he says; he has always been a lover of movies right from where he grew up in Jos, Plateau State. Growing up in the north perhaps better explains why his Yoruba language appears half-baked and the reason a lot of people didn’t think he is one when he came out publicly to say so.

He says, “They wanted to know where the name Olusola came from, but all that is gone now. It was an election to be determined by people in my constituency and those were the people who know me from home. So, I wasn’t really bothered by what people were saying.

I am born of a Yoruba father, my mother is an Igbo, I grew up in the north and my wife is from Akwa Ibom.” The beauty of having a mixed background, he notes, is that it allowed him to appreciate different cultures and see everyone as the same even in our diversity. “It is also helpful in the field of filmmaking and acting that I choose.”

From Sola Elliot to Desmond Elliot

A South African soap opera, Egoli challenged Elliot. He would always say to himself “I would love to be like Steve.” Steve was a character in the production. Being a church boy too, he was in the drama group and people got to notice his acting skills. They thought he was excellent and a good friend kept advising him.

He narrates, “He would always come around when the move was playing and he would say Sola you can do this. They called me Sola at home, but I realised most producers then were from the east and I felt that using Sola could make things difficult. I didn’t really understand why I decided to use Desmond at that point.

It is not a stage name; it is my English name. That was how Sola Elliot changed to Desmond Eliot. If anyone calls me Sola now I know the person knows me from home, but if I hear the Desmond I know it is when I started acting.”

Becoming an actor

Elliot’s degree was in Economics at the Lagos State University, so he didn’t have a background in films. When he started acting in 1999, almost 16 years ago, it took him about eight months to get a job. His mother kept wondering where he was always going every day, from morning till evening.

After about the eighth month, she queried him. He remembers, “My mother said Sola you go out every day, we’ve not seen money and we’ve not seen films. What do you go out to do? I just kept telling her it would be fine. But my father had serious faith and confidence in me.”

While he kept looking for opportunities in movies endlessly, he tried other things, including modelling. And in 1999-2000, he got a Tom-Tom (candy) commercial job. “I was picked last. I was very skinny and rough; it was obvious I was hungry. I saw that as a favour from God and that actually gave me hope because I was paid well. It was a Tom- Tom’s zebra crossing commercial.” Although he concedes, he wasn’t good as others, he kept pushing on with the mind-set that he would get his chance.

Then, the popular audition grounds were at Surulere, Lagos, and that was like a bonus for him because he resided in the neigbourhood. Every morning, Elliot was often among the first five to arrive for auditions. He tried this for a year without any meaningful gains.

When he got a chance to star in his first movie produced by Emeka Ani, there was still a dilemma. Ani told Elliot and his friend, Tuvi James, to decide who between them should be part of the production. The character was to play about three scenes.

Meeting Ramsey Nouah

From the bit role he played in The Challenge, he started introducing himself to people, including Nouah. Recalling vividly his first interaction with Nouah, he says his look when he attempted to shake him wasn’t pleasant. According to him, Nouah was playing one Jamaican song in his car and he left where everyone was seated to meet him.

“Now, it is funny how I see other young actors come to me. They call me by character name and try to explain the role they are playing just the way I introduced myself to Nouah then. It is now a conscious effort to be nicer because truth be told he wasn’t really nice to me.

He just said okay and he continued listening to his song,” he narrates. But, Elliot maintains that one shouldn’t be quarrelsome, stressing that one should be prepared to meet people with different ideas, characters and spirits. “Don’t be quarrelsome because message spread faster.

The fact that people felt I was humble worked for me, though they would never give you a bad or hard man’s role.”

Woman kept prisoner for nine months by boyfriend who made his dog bite her

A young woman was held prisoner for nine months by her new boyfriend who taught his dog how to bite her.
Becky Keegan only escaped by climbing through a kitchen window, breaking her ankle as she frantically ran away.
According to Mirror, the 24-year-old had no electricity to keep warm for almost a year, had her mobile phone stolen by him, and was prevented from contacting any of her relatives.
No report was made to Police about her disappearance as her family presumed she'd run off with a new man.
The brute confiscated her bank cards and ensured she wore the same clothes every day - long-sleeved tops and jeans.

Becky met David Lacey over Blackberry Messenger in March 2014 and the pair later began dating.
But after one weekend visit in April, last year, he imprisoned Becky in his house and she didn't escape until January this year – nearly nine months later. She said

That weekend was terrifying but I never knew it would turn into nine months.I felt worse than a prisoner – I was like his slave.I wasn't allowed to stand near the windows and I could only leave the house to go to his mum's for an hour or two. He quickly turned violent and I'd get hit and slapped, or he'd encourage his dog to get worked up and then bite me.

If David nipped to the shop he would lock me in the house and I'd desperately try to get someone's attention from the windows. One day in January he said he was nipping to a friend's house, but he'd left the kitchen window open.
It was tiny and quite high up, but I didn't have a second thought. I climbed out, legs first, onto an eight-foot-high wall and injured my ankle when I jumped down. I just ran and ran, it was the following day before I got back to my mum's house. I was so scared and didn't feel like I could trust anyone.

My mum was gobsmacked to see me at the front door, we both couldn't stop crying. She called David an animal and made me ring the police straightaway. I gave them a statement and in April, they called to say that David had handed himself in. I have never felt so relieved. I am still so affected by what happened – David has stolen more than a year of my life."

Lacey was jailed in July for 22 months after pleading guilty to false imprisonment and abstracting electricity.

Khloe Kardashian Lamar Has Sworn Off Drugs ... And That's Why I Took Him Back

Lamar Odom won Khloe Kardashian back by convincing her he would never do drugs again after hitting rock bottom.
Our sources tell us, Lamar told Khloe over the weekend he knew he cheated death, promising, "I am done with drugs." He also thanked her profusely for coming to Vegas and supporting him. He repeatedly told her that he loved her, and that was enough.
We're told Khloe made the decision right then to drop the divorce and nurse Lamar back to health.

TMZ broke the story ... Khloe's lawyer, Laura Wasser, went to court Wednesday and got the judge to dismiss the divorce case.
That all said, we're told not everyone in the Kardashian family thinks Khloe's decision is sound, because they've heard this from Lamar before.
