DIA Arrests Eight Over Sallah Day Plan To Bomb Abuja



The Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) yesterday, arrested eight suspects over alleged plan to detonate bombs in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja during the forth coming Sallah celebration scheduled for Thursday, September 24, 2015.

LEADERSHIP WEEKEND checks confirm that the suspects were arrested by DIA when they sneaked into the FCT to perfect and execute the heinous crime.

Though the identity of the suspects were not revealed, our source said the DIA has already taken the eight men into custody and are currently undergoing screening and interrogation, adding that useful information is being extracted from the suspects.

Over 50 people wer killed after a crane collapsed on the Grand Mosque in the Saudi Arabian city of Mecca this evening. According to Saudi Arabia's Civil Defence Authority, 30 people were wounded and are currently receiving treatment. Details as to what caused the accident is still sketchy but the photos released so far show that the crane crashed through the mosque roof. More pics after the cut..

Man Found Dead in A Lagos Hotel With All His Phone Contacts Deleted

                               
The management of the Western Lodge Hotel has announced that a man, identified simply as Sunday, has died at their hotel room at Ishawo Road, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

Room service discovered his corpse around 1am in his room.

All the contacts on his mobile phone were said to have been deleted, making it difficult for his relations to be contacted.

A man surnamed Zhao and his brother in Xi'an dug up eight pieces of bronze wares of thelate Shang and early Zhou Dynasty in their backyard, and attempted to sell them. In April,Zhao was sentenced 15 years in prison. Lately, the Supreme Court of Shaanxi provincerejected Zhao's appeal.

Zhao, 52, is a farmer in Chang'an District in Xi'an. In July 2014, when Zhao and hisbrother, who is now on the run, dug up tree roots at their backyard, they found an ancienttomb and dug up eight pieces of valuable bronze wares.

A statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by Col. Sani Usman, acting Director of Army Public Relations, said Buratai gave the warning during one of his visits to troops in the frontline.

It said the COAS told troops stationed in Gamboru Ngala that the war was not over until all terrorists and their commanders had laid down their arms and surrender to the military.

Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) have published macabre posters advertising ransoms for a Norwegian and a Chinese prisoner.


The announcements came at the end of the eleventh edition of Dabiq, an online English-language magazine released by Isil’s media arm.
The Norwegian man was identified as Ole Johan Grimsgaard-Ofstad, 48, from Oslo. The Chinese man was named as Fan Jinghui, 50, a freelance consultant from Beijing.

Nigerian governors have rejected the death penalty for looters..The governors, who spoke with The PUNCH, on Thursday, out rightly rejected the suggestion that looters of the nation’s resources be sentenced to death.
This comes as Organised labour- the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress-at the beginning of the week said looters should be given the death sentence in order to serve as deterrence to others.

Buhari fires head of FCT revenue board, others


President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the immediate sack of the Chairmen of the FCT Internal Revenue Service, Secondary (SEB) and the Universal Basic Education Boards (UBEB).
The sack was contained in a letter with reference sent to the FCT Permanent Secretary, John Obinna Chukwu, on Wednesday, by the Secretary to the Federal Government.

Police Rescue Abducted RCCG Pastor



The Ebonyi State Police Command said that the kidnapped Pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Ebonyi State and the Medical Director, Smile Hospital Abakaliki, Dr Johnson Obuna who was yesterday kidnapped by unknown gunmen, numbering about three, in Abakaliki was yesterday rescued from his abductors.

Dr Obuna, who was the former Chairman, Nigeria Medical Association, NMA according to the State Commissioner of Police, CP Peace Ibekwe Abdullah, who confirmed the kidnap, was abducted at about 8pm yesterday.

68.5 per cent candidates pass 2015 NECO exam



THE National Examinations Council has released the June/July 2015 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination results. The result showed a remarkable improvement when compared with previous examinations between 2011 and 2014.

Soldiers kill 10, arrest 64 suspected terrorists



Soldiers of the One Mechanised Division of the Nigerian Army, Kaduna, have killed no fewer than 10 suspected terrorists in various joint operations code-named, “Operation Restore Peace II” in the North-West zone of the country.

Also in the operations, about 64 suspected terrorists and bandits were arrested.

Those arrested had been handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution, according to the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, One Division, Nigerian Army, Kaduna, Col. Usman Abdul.

Boko Haram camps “wiped out” – Nigerian military



The Nigerian military on Wednesday said it has destroyed all known Boko Haram terrorists’ camps and cells in the North East.

The Defence spokesperson, Rabe Abubakar, said this at his maiden news conference, adding that the camps were destroyed by troops operating in the region.

Mr. Abubakar said the terrorists have been “so militarily defeated and weakened” that they can never hold any part of the territory in that part of the country.

On Wednesday in Obele Lawanson Community, Surulere, Lagos, a family of seven died in a fire disaster.The victims, who lived on 23, Michael Ogun Street, died because their co-tenants did not make effort to rescue them when they called out for help around 11.30pm on Tuesday.

Those killed were a textile material dealer, 28-year-old Kelechi Onoja; his wife, 18-year-old Nkiru; their one year and eight months old first child, Favour; their three weeks unnamed second baby boy; two yet-to-be-identified family members; and Nkiru’s 80-year-old mother.

Stowaway caught inside plane's tyre compartment at Lagos airport

                        

A 25-year-old man who attempted to hide under the tyre carriage of a Medview aircraft on a domestic flight was apprehended yesterday at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 (MMA2) in Lagos.
He was found by the pilot during his final check on the plane before its departure to Accra, Ghana.
Airport workers hinted that he succeeded in gaining access into the tyre compartment of the aircraft which was ready for taxing on the Tarmac .

He hid himself at the tyre compartment in the under carriage of the aircraft .A source hinted that final inspection round the plane by the pilot drew his attention to some strange movements and object inside the tyre compartment.

Survivor’s story: God was working that night



Agnes Mends-Armstrong is simply not a strong woman - physically. But an unknown arm was strong enough to pull her out of four feet of flood waters Wednesday night during Accra’s twin disasters of fire and floods.

Her story is about how strength is not a requirement for salvation or weakness a sentence for death in times of danger.

As one of the survivors that day, she was a panelist on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show Friday for the final series of survivor’s story.

5 Nigerian pilgrims die in Saudi Arabia

Chinese woman arrested after swallowing 1,700 times lethal dose of heroin



A woman has been arrested in western China after she swallowed 78 pellets of heroin, up to 1,700 times the minimum lethal dose.
The woman, who has not been named, was stopped by police at Turpan train station in the Xinjiang autonomous region after police noticed her behaving “erratically” during a routine security check, reported the China News Service on Sunday.

A man in Oakland County was stabbed after he discovered his wife in bed with her own father. The 25-year-old victim came home to find his wife and his father-in-law lying naked in bed together.

He woke his father-in-law up, and the two got into an argument that continued outside. The older man, Henry Allen Michael of Detroit, then allegedly stabbed his son-in-law in the back with a knife and drove away in the victim’s vehicle.

B’Haram drug suppliers caught with cannabis, others



The troops of the Nigerian Army have intercepted some suspected members of the Boko Haram sect believed to be suppliers of hard drugs and other stimulants to the deadly sect.

The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, said in a statement on Tuesday that the suspects were arrested at Depchi and Geidam in Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State.

He said that the arrested terrorists were also involved in the supply of fuel aside from the hard drugs in their possession.

A British Airways flight bound for London Gatwick was taxiing on the tarmac at McCarran Airport on Tuesday night when it suddenly caught fire. Those on board were forced to jump down the evacuation slides and run away from the blaze. The plane was preparing for take off and only  two people taken to a local hospital for treatment after suffering minor injuries. There were 159 passengers and 13 crew members on board at the time. It is not yet known what caused the fire..
