I won’t die alone, kidnap suspect sings



A kidnap suspect, Linus Nlemadim, from Egbelu Obube in Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State, shocked his captors yesterday when he expressed readiness to reel out the names of his colleagues in crime.

Nlemadim was allegedly arrested in connection with the recent kidnap of one Eziopara Ben Anyanwu, an American-based indigene of the same autonomous community.

Vanguard gathered from a source that the suspect, who made the promise soon after his arrest, vowed that he would not die alone.

A Nigerian man living in the United States has been charged with murder after his mother was found dead at her Regency Park apartment in Texas USA.

Dr Hauwa Esther Kadima, 61, was found dead on July 28 after officers received a call from her son Daniel Basor Kadima, 31, alerting them of a person believed to be dead at her apartment

Daniel called 911 about 9 a.m. July 28 and told dispatchers he was calling to report a death, according to the warrant, which was released Monday. When asked when he had last seen the deceased, he responded “yesterday,” police said. Kadima identified himself but did not say the
victim’s name or the nature of their relationship.

The Miss Bum Bum Brazil 2015 saw women flock to Sao Paulo to take part in an annual pageant which judges them on their behinds.
The contestants stopped traffic as they posed in the middle of Sao Paulo's main avenue, Avenida Paulista.
More than 500 women are competing in the pageant and 27 will be chosen to represent each of the Brazilian states, with 15 then put before the public vote in November.

Man Beats Wife To Death With Iron Over "Adultery" (PHOTO)

An indigene of Ilogbo in the Sango-Ota area of Ogun State, Marufu Olasoji, has beaten his wife, Kehinde Olasoji, to death for allegedly committing adultery.
It was learnt that the 35-year-old welder repeatedly hit the wife’s head with an iron until she gave up the ghost.
He was said to have sprayed cement on her face and fled the neighbourhood, leaving her in a pool of blood.
The incident happened around 8pm on Monday at the Chelsea neighbourhood of the Sango-Ota area.
PUNCH Metro gathered that Marufu had turned Kehinde, a hairdresser, who had three children for him, to a punch bag while their 15-year relationship lasted.

Our correspondent was told that the wife, aged 35, left the welder with her children three months ago

when she could no longer endure the assault.

Buhari orders quick action on new national carrier

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday ordered the Ministry of Aviation to expedite action on the establishment of a new national airline for the country.

The president gave the directive while receiving briefing from officials of the Aviation Ministry, led by the Permanent Secretary, Binta Bello, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Shock as Rep withdraws motion to probe treatment of Nigerians by foreign companies



The House of Representatives was denied the opportunity of intervening on the reported inhuman treatment Nigerians working in some foreign companies operating in Nigeria were subjected to.

A motion to address the issue entitled: ‘Urgent need to curb unwholesome practices of Chinese, Indian and Lebanese companies in Nigeria, was withdrawn by the sponsor, Segun Adekola (PDP, Ekiti).

To the surprise of some lawmakers, who were prepared for the debate, Adekola took the leave of the House to withdraw the motion.

EFCC identifies owner of $2.1m seized cash

               

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) yesterday said it had traced about $2.1million (N413million) seized at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos to a former Executive Secretary of a federal parastatal.

The commission said it might be forced to declare the man wanted if he does not show up for questioning.

The agency said all attempts to locate the man in Lagos and Abuja proved futile.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on July 3 arrested a bureau de change operator, Mr. Ibiteye John Bamidele, at MMA Terminal 2 (MMA2) Lagos with the cash.

Lecturer rapes 18- year-old admission seeker in Lagos



The police in Lagos State have arrested a part-time lecturer, Afeez Baruwa, for allegedly raping an 18-year-old girl, identified as Caroline (pseudonym) in the Yaba area.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the victim, who was reportedly raped inside a study room, was seeking admission into the University of Lagos, Akoka.

It was gathered that Baruwa was arrested by the Surulere Police Division on Monday, August 3.

CBN bans cash deposits into domiciliary accounts



The Central Bank of Nigeria has banned the payment of cash into domiciliary accounts in the country, TheCable reports.

In a circular released on Wednesday and signed by the Director of Trade and Exchange, CBN, Olakanmi Gbadamosi, the central bank said its action followed recent statements by individual banks suspending the payment of foreign currencies into domiciliary accounts.

Enugu approves three-week paternity leave



The Enugu State Government has amended its Civil Service rules to grant six months maternity leave to nursing mothers.

Interestingly, husbands whose wives might put to bed were also given a ‘paternity leave’, but it would only be for just three weeks.

The paternity leave was meant to give such husbands the opportunity to support their nursing wives, according to the state government.

Before, female workers who gave birth were entitled to three months maternity leave while the men whose wives delivered babies were not exempted from work.

Similarly, the state government also resolved that henceforth, nursing mothers were free to breast-feed their babies in offices during work hours.

Kansas man holds ex-girlfriend captive for months, raping her in her apartment



A Kansas man kept his ex-girlfriend hostage in her apartment for months, raping her at least twice before he was discovered, authorities said.

The terrified woman finally managed to mail a message to the manager at the Lenexa apartment complex, hiding it in an envelope with the rent check, police Cpt. Diana Mendoza told the Daily News.

The 46-year-old woman laid out a simple but daring plan in the note — if police could send a maintenance worker to open the door, she’d run to them.

Recover stolen oil money, Buhari tells NNPC boss



A NEW helmsman took the reins yesterday at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, the Executive Vice Chairman/General Counsel of ExxonMobil (Africa), as Group Managing Director (GMD), asking him to give recovery of stolen oil money a priority, among other targets.

Buhari may also appoint Kachikwu, who beat three other candidates in the race for the job, as the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources to ensure synergy, a source said last night.

Buhari Wants Islamic Books Included in Federal Schools’ Curriculum



President Muhammadu Buhari has urged the Federal Ministry of Education to include two Islamic Studies books written by the late Justice Muhammad Bashir Sambo in the secondary school curriculum for all Federal Government Colleges.

Lagos seals Kanu Nwankwo's hotel,worship centres

      

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency has sealed a hotel owned by ex-Super Eagles player, Kanu Nwankwo, on Victoria Island.
The hotel was among other hotels, churches and mosques sealed across the state on Monday over alleged air and noise pollution.

No fewer than 30 facilities were shut in areas, including Ketu, Ikorodu, Ibeju-Lekki, Victoria Island and Surulere.
According to Punch,LASEPA said the owners of the facilities had been contacted several times in the last one year, adding that they refused to fully complied with LASEPA’s instructions.

‘Unemployment rate rises to 8.2 per cent’



Unemployment rate is on the rise, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) alerted yesterday.

The Bureau said the unemployment rate in the second quarter (Q2) of the year rose to 8.2 per cent from the 7.5 per cent rate it was in the preceding quarter.

The latest rise was the consecutive jump in unemployment rate since the third quarter of last year.

NBS explained that the economically active population or working age, comprising persons within the 15 to 64 age bracket, increased to 103.5 million in the Q2 up from 102.8 million in the first quarter.

Buhari: we know banks keeping stolen oil cash



NIGERIA has traced its looted funds to some foreign banks, President Muhammadu Buhari said yesterday.

Buhari has vowed to recover such funds from banks, financial institutions and countries in which payments for stolen crude oil have been deposited.

Buhari, who did not name the banks, spoke while receiving visiting United States Congressmen at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, Buhari acknowledged the cooperation his administration was getting from the internationalcommunity in gathering intelligence for tracing and recovering stolen national resources.

Teenagers attack shops, stab three to death



There was panic on Freeman and Borno streets in the Oyingbo area of Lagos State when teenagers, armed with cutlasses and knives, attacked and looted shops, while some traders were injured in the area.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the teenagers, on the fateful day ─ Saturday ─ went to Old Apapa Road, Oyingbo, and stabbed three persons to death.

EFCC quizzes NAFDAC DG for alleged contract fraud



Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Monday quizzed the Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, Dr. Paul Orhii, for an alleged abuse of office and contract fraud.

Orhii, who arrived the EFCC by 10am, was grilled for seven hours and asked to go by 5pm.

An operative of the commission who confided in our correspondent said that the NAFDAC boss was asked to go on administrative bail and would be available for further interrogation on Tuesday.
