Foreign Reserves Rises To $31.89bn
As a result of tight fiscal policy anchored on blocking of leakages, Nigeria’s foreign reserves has risen from $29.1 billion left by the immediate past government to $31.89 billion presently.
Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele made this disclosure yesterday while briefing the Senate leadership on the state of the nation’s economy and actions being taken by CBN to boost it.
Emefiele, at the briefing explained that though the crash in the price of crude oil in the international market since last year still has serious rippling effect on Nigeria’s economy, being a mono-product one over the years, signs of recovery are already emerging, one of which is the rise in the nation’s foreign reserves from $29.1billion to $31.89billion within a space of five weeks.

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday maintained that the handling of the Chibok girls issue by former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration was not impressive.
He spoke when he received the #Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) camapigners at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where they made numerous demands of the government.
Buhari also said it was a matter of right for the government to take care of the escaped girls and parents of the over 200 secondary school girls abducted from Chibok, Borno State on April 14.

The federal ministry of health has disclosed it was currently computing all salaries and allowances which accrued to the impersonator, Martins Okpeh Ugwu, during what it described as his mischievous sojourn in the ministry, for full retrieval by the relevant law enforcement agencies.
Speaking to newsmen yesterday at the ministry, the permanent secretary, of the ministry, Mr Linus Awute, said, “The fake doctor continued his deceit and practised as a medical doctor and collected salaries from the ministry until the lid was blown off his scheme.”
Police kill 3 Kidnappers in Rivers
The Police have killed three suspected kidnappers in Port Harcourt the Rivers state capital.
The command’s spokesman, Ahmed k. Mohammed in a statement in Port Harcourt Wednesday said the kidnappers were killed at about 9:30 pm Tuesday night while trying to abduct their victim at the gates of his residence in Port Harcourt.
The police also said they arrested a member of three-man robbery gang in Port Harcourt, and recovered a vehicle and the sum of N2, 350 million among other items.
Oshiomhole seeks stiffer penalties for rapists
The Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has called for stiffer penalties for persons convicted of rape, defilement and other forms of child abuse to serve as a deterrent to others.
He also urged the people of the state to stop giving alms to child beggars to discourage the rising trend of child beggars in the state.
Oshiomhole, who spoke when he received members of the state chapter of International Federation of Women Lawyers who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, decried the rising cases of the menace in the state and the country which he described as “heinous crimes” that must be prosecuted diligently.

Enugu judiciary workers call off six-month strike
The Enugu State chapter of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria on Wednesday called off the industrial action it embarked on in a bid to compel the state government to comply with constitutional provisions on the independence and financial autonomy of the judiciary.
The strike had lasted six months.
However, the judicial workers decided to resume work after their leaders held discussions with Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi at the government house.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, which lasted about four hours, the state chairman of JUSUN, Comrade Chinedu Mbah, disclosed that members of the union will resume work on Thursday.
22-Year Old Girl Slices Rivals Face With Razor Blade, As Lover Dumps Both Girls
A 22-year-old woman has been arrested and charged before Magistrates’ court sitting in Ejigbo for allegedly inflicting injury on her rival’s face with razor blade in Lagos State. Miss Mary Atiake, who is a daughter of a senior police officer serving in Lagos, met her rival, Sarah Ogunyemi, in her lover’s house identified as Joe at Olowo Close in Igando and became angry.
She allegedly went and bought a razor blade with which she inflicted injury on Sarah’s head and face. The victim who bled profusely after the attack was taken to Igando General Hospital where she is being treated. The matter was reported at Igando Police Division and Atiake was arrested.

45-year old Lawrence Agbe (pictured above) was yesterday July 7th arrested by security officials at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport Ikeja Lagos while trying to transport fake dollar bills totaling $2.1 million from Lagos to Abuja.
While speaking on the arrest, the Commissioner of Police for the command, Mr. Fredrick Lakanu, said during interrogation Lawrence said the fake dollar bills were owned by one Steve.

Buhari May Sideline EFCC, ICPC In Loot Recovery
PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari may not involve the nation’s anti-graft agencies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission in his government’s efforts at recovering looted funds, The PUNCH has learnt.
Our correspondents learnt on Monday that the President did not have confidence in the anti-graft agencies.
A top government official, who is familiar with the Buhari’s government’s efforts at recovering looted funds, told The PUNCH in confidence that President might rely more on people outside the system to achieve good results.
The official said, “The President’s body language as far as the anti-corruption agencies are concerned suggests that he does not have so much confidence in them.
“Most of the recovery job may be done by people outside the system, like consultants.”He added that Buhari’s reliance on outsiders had started yielding positive results and that the President was currently in possession of incriminating information about individuals and institutions suspected to be culpable in looting the nation’s treasury.
76 Year Old Retired School Principal Dies On Top 18 Year Old Girl
76-yr-old retired school principal identified as Pa Alphonsus Dimgba, has reportedly died while exerting himself on an 18-year-old girl he was having sex with.
According to reports, the incident occurred in a community in Enugu State where the old man who retired from a public school in Anambra State some years ago, had gone back to and became a community leader. But his undoing, according to residents, was his love for anything in skirt, not sparing the young and the old, even the married women.

NYPD sergeant suspended after allegedly throwing semen on female co-worker he was 'enamored' with, sources say
An NYPD sergeant has been suspended after a co-worker claimed he threw semen on her inside of police headquarters, police sources said Tuesday.
The sergeant, identified as Michael Iscenko, 54, allegedly tossed semen on the unidentified woman near a freight elevator at 1 Police Plaza, according to the reports.
The victim — who worked with Iscenko in the Organized Crime Control Bureau - reported the recent incident immediately after it happened, police sources said.
The substance that was splattered on her was tested and determined to be semen, a police source said. It had not yet been determined if it was Iscenko’s semen.
Iscenko had previously told the co-worker he liked her, a police source said.

EFCC arrests Sule Lamido and two sons
The ex governor and his sons are said to have been moved to Kano for arraignment in court either Wednesday or Thursday.
The spokesperson for the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the arrest of the former governor.
In November 2013,Mr. Lamido’s sons were arrested in Kano and flown to Abuja..He was not arrested because he enjoyed immunity as a governor ..Lamido surrendered himself to the commission at the end of his tenure on June 15.They were accused of using their positions to siphon Jigawa State funds,using construction firm, Dantata and Sawoe.The firm is said to have paid N1.3 billion as 10 percent kickback for contracts it won, into accounts owned by the governor and his sons.
Ex-NMA Chairman Served As Fake Medical Doctor For 9 Years
The long arm of the law caught up with a 44-year-old secondary school certificate holder, Martins Ugwu Okpeh, who, for nine years had been parading himself as a medical doctor and even rose to become the chairman of a branch of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA.
Okpeh, an indigene of Ogbadibo local government area of Benue State and father of five stole copies of the medical and academic credentials of his childhood friend Dr. George Davidson, a medical doctor practising in Jos and used it to secure employment in the Federal Ministry of Health.
The fake doctor continued his deceit and practised as a medical doctor and collected salaries from the ministry until the lid was blown off his scheme.
Snake found in Magistrate’s chambers
There was pandemonium at a court in Ejigbo, Lagos, after a snake was discovered in the chambers of one of the Magistrates.
The incident which occurred at about 8:30am on Monday terrified the court support staff, who were at the time preparing to receive the newly posted Magistrate, Akeem Fashola.
The Nation gathered that the Magistrate, who resumed duty at the court premises and had sat on his desk, did not know there was a green snake beside his table.
Policeman shoots fuel vendor
Seven policemen attached to the Anthony Police Division are being quizzed for their roles in a fracas involving fuel vendors at the Ishaga junction, Lawanson Road, Surulere, Lagos State.
The policemen were alleged to be in the habit of collecting money and free fuel from the vendors as part of arrangements to give the black marketers freedom to operate by the roadside.
However, there was a disagreement between the two groups on Thursday, which led to a fight.
Three of the uniformed men were said to have chased some of the vendors into Orotedo Street, shooting sporadically.
One of the fuel vendors, Kamarudeen Olalude, was said to have been shot in the waist.
Some hoodlums in the area reportedly surrounded the policemen with clubs, bottles and other weapons, in a bid to fight back.
N5bn fraud: Nnamani’s co-accused persons lose assets to FG
The various assets of four of the six companies charged with money laundering along with a former Governor of Enugu State, Chimaroke Nnamani, were on Tuesday forfeited to the Federal Government.
Justice Mohammed Yunusa of a Federal High Court in Lagos pronounced the companies’ assets and all the funds standing to their credit in various banks forfeited to the Federal Government after they had been convicted for the offence levelled against them.

Popular Actor Cosby Admits To Drugging Woman For Sex
Embattled popular US comedian Bill Cosby admitted having drugged at least one woman with Quaaludes to have sex with her, in court documents unsealed Monday.
Cosby, accused of sexual assault by about 30 women over decades but who has so far escaped justice, made the admission in a deposition in 2005, talking about an incident from 1976.
The 77-year-old was questioned by Dolores Troiani, a lawyer for Andrea Constand, ex-women’s basketball director at Philadelphia’s Temple University where Cosby studied and was a member of BOT.
Constand took her rape case to court, but the case was dropped.
Cosby’s lawyers had sought to block publication of the court transcripts, but they were released Monday on the PACER public court records website.

Former Nigeria Leader, Gowon Pleads with Nigerians: Don't Rush Buhari to Hasty Action.
Following the recent 30 day assessment of the new government led by President Buhari, and Buhari being referred to Baba Go-slow, former Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon has pleaded with Nigerians not to rush the new president.
Speaking exclusively with the Nigerian Tribune, in Ibadan, Gowon said;
"Give him a chance. You cannot solve any problem within two or three days. People say they want a change but as far as the problem of Nigeria is concerned, you cannot do it in one day, in one month. It will take time before a lot of these changes would be done and done effectively.”

University of Ibadan has emerged the best in Nigeria and the 8th in Africa..The University established in 1948 was ranked by Journals Consortium on 1,447 higher institutions.

Alleged Forgery: PDP Govs, Ohanaeze Rally Round Ekweremadu
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum and the Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, have condemned the police harassment of the Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu under the guise of investigating the alteration of the Senate’s standing rules.
The allegation of forgery of the Senate’s standing rules was first raised by Senator Kabiru Marafa (Zamfara Central) on the floor of the Senate on June 10, 24 hours after the inauguration of the Eighth Senate and election of its presiding officers – Senate President Bukola Saraki and Ekweremadu as his deputy.
Marafa also restated the allegation through another point of order on June 23.
But in response to Marafa’s point of order, Ekweremadu had explained that every edition of the Senate standing orders was only valid for a tenure of four years.

20 Persons, 25 Cows Die in Kogi Road Accident Caused by Robbers
Vanguard gathered that the accident was caused by a road block mounted by armed robbers along Irepeni axis of the highway. The robbers were said to have fled the scene afterwards.
An eyewitness said a luxury bus with number plates KRD 799 LC, which was heading to Abuja from Lagos, suddenly ran into the road block mounted by armed bandits. As the bus was trying to avoid
the blockade, a truck, with number plates KTN 711 YZ, loaded with cows, reportedly rammed into it, killing several people on the spot.
Boko Haram: Kumuyi Visits Communities In Adamawa
The general superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry and Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor Williams Kumuyi, is set to visit Adamwa State next week Tuesday to “strengthen the church and identify with the people” over persistent attacks by Boko Haram insurgents.
Kumuyi will also hold a special meeting with residents of the state, “irrespective of religion”.
The state overseer of the church in Adamawa, Pastor Adeniyi Hassan, made this known in Yola at a news briefing. He also revealed that the church had so far expended about N7.6 million on Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.
El-Rufai abolishes state/local govt joint account
Kaduna State Governor Malam Nasir El-Rufai yesterday abolished the state/local government joint account. He said his government would remit 10 per cent of its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to local government councils.
El-Rufai spoke while swearing-in chairmen of the Interim Management Committees of the 23 local councils.
The governor warned the chairmen against residing outside their councils and advised those that could not abide to vacate the office.
He said: “You have no excuse to fail. Perform and bring real development to our state at the local level. This is to fulfil our campaign promises that we will not hold local government funds if elected.

Muhammadu Buhari has approved a whooping sum of 400bn Naira to settle the ongoing crisis over unpaid salaries.
With several states crying out that they are in debt and some states not being able to settle salaries of over 7 months, the president has had to intervene to get the nation back on track.
He today approved a relief package valued at over N400bn, which would then be distributed evenly between the states of the federation.

“This is because without the security checkpoints, people can flow from all angles and attack innocent people.”

Police to quiz Ekweremadu over ‘forged’ Senate rules
The Peoples Democratic Party on Sunday said the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, had summoned the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, over alleged forgery of the Senate Rules on election of its principal officers.
The PDP said Ekweremadu is expected to appear before a team of investigators at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Monday (today).
It said the letter inviting the deputy senate president was dated July 1, 2015 and was signed by the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of criminal investigation at the FHQ.

His lawyer, P.H. Ogbole, who spoke in Abuja yesterday called on friends and family of the former governor to disregard the publications claiming that Suswam was arrested in the United Kingdom for beating up his wife, Yemisi.
While threatening to take legal action against those behind the falsehood, Suswam described publication alleging that he beat his wife as a calculated attempt to smear his image.

Workmates and family members of the slain security guard said the incident occurred on Saturday shortly after 1AM. The victim identified as Jabulani Madolo, 48, of Mpopoma suburb was manning the premises when he was attacked by three men who concealed their faces under woollen monkey caps.
Two of the suspects have since been arrested after their images were captured on the company's closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV).
