Same sex marriage declared legal in all 50 states of America


                      


The US Supreme Court today June 26th ruled that same-sex marriages must be recognized in all 50 states of the United States of America. Texas will probably appeal.

The Supreme Court on Friday delivered a historic victory for gay rights, ruling 5 to 4 that the Constitution requires that same-sex couples be allowed to marry no matter where they live and that states may no longer reserve the right only for heterosexual couples.

Senate Begins Move to Reduce its Allowances

In response to the recent outcry from Nigerians against perceived huge allowances being paid to federal legislators, the Senate Thursday began moves to reduce its earnings by constituting a committee to draw a roadmap for the review.

The move, which is geared towards ensuring accountability in the Senate, is the first of its kind since 1999.

It was also in fulfillment of the promise made by Senate President, Bukola Saraki, last week after a meeting with the leadership of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

Osinbajo: Merit Should Supersede Federal Character for Govt Appointments

Court stops FRSC from arresting owners of ‘old’ licences



The Federal High Court in Lagos has held that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) cannot arrest any motorist for not having the new driver’s licence if the old version is yet to expire.

Ruling on a suit brought by a lawyer, Mr Tope Alabi, Justice John Tsoho granted an order of perpetual injunction restraining FRSC “from compelling the valid driver licence holders, including the plaintiff to renew same when such driver licences have not expired.”

Police, army clash in Abia


A policeman attached to Police Mobile Force (PMF 55), Osisioma Local Government Area of Abia State is currently battling for his life in an undisclosed hospital.

The policeman whose name could not be immediately ascertained as at the time this report was said to have been hospitalized after he was allegedly hit in the chest during a crossfire between the army and police patrol team that stormed Ngwa High School Forward Operation Base (FOB).

A SATELLITE TV engineer has been found guilty of brutally murdering his neighbour by stabbing her 33 times with two knives.


Trevor Gibbon, 48, carried out the frenzied attack on mother-of-one Alison Morrison after a dispute spiralled over into violence.
Gibbon faces life behind bars for the killing after a jury unanimously found him guilty of murder today at the Old Bailey.

Mrs Morrison, a charity executive, was murdered the day after she won a restraining order against Gibbon.
The court heard how Mrs Morrison, 45, was walking to work when Gibbon dragged her to the ground and stabbed her with two knives in a 'calm and calculated' attack.

Court Stops Wike From Sacking LG Chairmen



The National Industrial Court sitting in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State has granted an interim injunction restraining Rivers State governor, Chief Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike

and the State House of Assembly from dissolving the 23 local government councils in the state.

The court, presided over by Justice James Justice Agbadu-Fishim, also restrained the state Attorney-General and agents of the state government from dissolving, suspending, sacking, terminating or in any manner whatsoever interfering with the tenure of office of the councils.

Bribery: Man arrested for snapping policeman


For taking pictures of a policeman collecting bribe from a commercial motorist, a young man, Thompson Ntiedo has been arrested.

He was arrested by personnel of the Okota Police Station on Tuesday evening, who claimed they were carrying out the directives of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), James Chu, a CSP.
The victim was detained for three hours, released on bail at about 9pm with his two phones confiscated after he was forced to delete all the pictures he took.

Senate to summon NNPC over state of refineries



The Senate on Wednesday agreed to summon the management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation to appear before its relevant committees as soon as they are constituted to account for the states of the existing refineries.

The red chamber also urged the Federal Government to revamp the existing refineries and create an enabling environment for private investors to come in and invest in refining of petroleum products.

It noted that the action remained a perfect way to find a permanent solution to the fuel crisis in the country.

It also urged the Federal Road Safety Commission to arrange regular training programmes for tanker drivers in the country in order to reduce road accidents occasioned by reckless driving.

Robbers kill Lord’s Chosen Church pastor in Lagos



                                    
                                      

Armed robbers have shot dead a pastor of the Lord’s Chosen Church in the Ijesha area of Lagos.

The deceased, identified as Chukwuemeka Akpokpo, who was driving one of the church’s buses, was reportedly attacked by the robbers on Monday at Alakoso Avenue, off Ijesha bus stop.

The pastor was said to be returning with a sum of money collected from a bank at Apple Junction, FESTAC Town, when the incident occurred.

EFCC arraigns two for hacking into Enterprise Bank’s database


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday arraigned two men for allegedly attempting to hack into the database of Enterprise Bank Plc.

The suspects are Ola Lawal, Abass Ajide while the third person Olumide Kayode was said to be at large.

The defendants were arraigned on a four count charge bordering on conspiracy to defraud, felony, stealing and forgery before the court presided over by Justice Lateef Lawal-Akapo.

According to the prosecution, Seidu Atteh, the suspects conspired to defraud Enterprise Bank by hacking into the bank’s network with their laptop, router model and grabber/key logger to obtain the password of key operations staff through the Central Processing Unit (CPU).

Court refuses Kashamu’s application to jail NDLEA chairman


Justice Ibrahim Buba of the Federal High Court in Lagos yesterday refused to commit the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ahmed Giade, to prison.

He said the committal proceedings initiated by Senator Buruji Kashamu, who the NDLEA is seeking to extradite to the United States to face drug-related charges, had become academic.

He said a similar application was decided by another judge of the court, Justice Okon Abang.

Justice Abang had barred the NDLEA from giving effect to a warrant of arrest for Kashamu.

He nullified the provisional warrant of arrest secured by the NDLEA against Kashamu.

Rivers: Sea Pirates Kill 4 Policemen, Hijack Gunboat

                         

Unknown gunmen suspected to be sea pirates yesterday afternoon killed no fewer than four policemen, including an Assistant Superintendent of Police in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
Learnt that the policemen were on patrol on the Abonema Wharf when the pirates, who were masked, suddenly appeared and opened fire on them, who are of the Police Marine Division of the State Police Command.

Emotional Moment Long Lost Twin Is Reunited With His Brother After 20 Years

    

A twin who has been missing for 20 years has finally been reunited with his brother and parents.
Wan Shuangjian was just two years old when he was kidnapped in 1995 while playing outside his home with his older sister in Shenzhen in southern China, reported the People's Daily Online.
Shuangjian, who was renamed Luo Xiaoding by his new parents and is now 22, was found by police last month using facial recognition technology.
His twin brother Shuanglong had given a photograph of himself to police investigating human trafficking back in 2008.

The Akwa Ibom State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal which is currently sitting in Abuja has fixed June 24 for ruling on an application seeking the return of the tribunal to Uyo, the state capital.

The Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate in the April 11, 2015 governorship election, Udom Emmanuel, whose victory at the poll is being challenged at the tribunal, had through an application filed on June 7, 2015 prayed the tribunal to return to Uyo where it held its inaugural sitting before the decision to relocate it to Abuja.

President Buhari Cancels Military Checkpoints Nationwide

                         

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the removal of all military checkpoints set up nationwide in the fight against boko haram activities. He gave the order to service chiefs today at the Presidential Villa in a closed door meeting he held with them.

Married Chinese Man Arrested For Having FIFTEEN Mistresses And Collecting Money From Them


A Chinese man has been arrested for having 15 mistresses and taking money from all of them. Tian Fusheng, who is married and has a 18-year-old daughter, allegedly dated more than a dozen of women - including two sharing the same dorm - and swindled 350,000 Yuan (£35,500) out of them during the last four years.
The unemployed man, 40, stood trial in Beijing for fraud last week, reported People's Daily Online.


Mr Tian met his mistresses, who are all university students, through online chatting platform QQ.
He would then invite the young women to his home, have sex with them and promise to marry them.
Three of the 15 women are reported to have got pregnant by him.

Carl Thompson, who was dubbed the fattest man in Britain, died at his home in Dover, Kent earlier today.
Police, ambulances and fire crews were called to his house.
Neighbour Ronald Williams said it took emergency crews several hours to remove Thompson's body.
Thompson hit the headlines earlier this year after it was revealed he tipped the scales at 65 stone, making him Britain's heaviest man.

He reportedly spent £22,000 on takeaways over the last six years. It is believed his excessive binge eating caused his weight to skyrocket.

A 34-year-old man, Solomon Ajisafe, has been arrested by the police for allegedly torturing his girlfriend, Tope Amuda, in the Igbo Olomu, Ikorodu West area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Solomon, together with his mother, a leader in the Oodua People’s Congress, and some hoodlums flogged Amuda with canes for alleged adultery.

Our correspondents were told that afterwards, she was taken round the community, before ground pepper was allegedly inserted in her private parts.The incident happened last Sunday at about 7pm on Aminu Toyin Street.

A resident, who identified herself only as Adunni, told PUNCH Metro that attempts made by neighbours to stop the torture was rebuffed by the OPC.
Adunni said Amuda, a 25-year-old Osun State indigene, lost her mind due to the trauma she suffered.

The 47-year-old suffers from a rare and as yet undiagnosed medical condition.
Mr Baguma married wife Kate Namanda, 30, in 2013 and the couple have just welcomed a new baby girl into their family.
In 2002 he entered a contest to find the African nation's ugliest man due to financial difficulties.
Mr Baguma has had six children with his wife and also has two kids from a previous marriage.

Speaking of how the pair fell in love he said: "I stayed with her for four years before her people knew where she was.

Nigeria’s treasury ‘virtually empty’ says Buhari.



President Muhammadu Buhari Monday said that he inherited a “‎virtually empty treasury” with debts running into hundreds of millions of Dollars and appealed to the media to explain the true position to Nigerians so that “they won’t match on us”.

The President who spoke while meeting with members of the State House Press Corps said it was a disgrace that Nigeria is not able to pay workers salaries adding that this was as a result of bad management.

Al Shabaab fighters at about 1am local time stormed a police station on the edge of Afgoi town, 30km southwest of Mogadishu, killing eight officers and stealing three pick up trucks, including one that had a machine gun mounted on it.

"Al Shabaab killed eight of my colleagues and took three of our cars last night," Major Abdikadir Hussein, a police officer told Reuters from Afgoi.

Police Unveil One Of The Ruthless Gangs Terrorizing Lagos (Photo)


A cursory glance at the three able-bodied youths whose ages range between 18 and 26, will easily pass them for malnourished and ailing individuals, judging by their fragile and seeming innocent and harmless looks. But how wrong that can be. The police in Lagos alleged that they are rather suspected members of a notorious seven-man robbery gang that had been terrorizing Iyana-Ipaja, Dopemu and other areas of the state, including neighbouring Sango-Ota in Ogun state.

They were arrested by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) last Monday, in Iyana-Ipaja area of Lagos. Detectives also alleged that the gang had been unleashing mayhem on residents of these areas.

Buhari Orders Disposal of Nine Presidential Aircraft to Cut Cost


President Muhammadu Buhari has directed that nine of the VIP transport aircraft under the presidential fleet should be sold.According to THISDAY,the presidential fleet, which are registered as Nigerian Air Force aircraft, is one of the largest in Africa and the third largest in Nigeria after Arik Air and Aerocontractors.

According to an aviation source, who is aware of the directive to sell the aircraft, the presidency has a number of serviceable and unserviceable aircraft that need to be disposed of in order to reduce the amount spent by thefederal government for aircraft maintenance annually.
“Nine, which still have market value, are to be sold immediately to reduce maintenance costs,” he said.
For years, the federal government has spent over N12 billion annually for the maintenance of the presidentialfleet.

Controversy hits sale of Delta Steel Plc

A major crisis has broken out over the purported sale of Delta Steel Plc, Aladja.

71 Year Old Man Slaughters Wife With A Machete in Akwa Ibom, Nigeria

          
      

A 70 year old man has been arrested in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom state after he killed his 60yr old wife with a machete. The man, Ita Daniel Okpo (pictured), from Mbiokporo village,  attacked his wife, Alice Ita Daniel, with the machete while she was sleeping. The machete is now with the Police at the Force Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia.

Narrating the story to newsmen yesterday Tuesday, 16th June, the Assistant Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department, Mike Okoli, said the deceased was sleeping when the septuagenarian husband attacked and hacked her.

A 60-year-old man, identified as Yakubu Vong, has allegedly set ablaze an eight-year-old girl (names withheld) at Sabon Layi in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The suspect, who is in police custody in Jos, allegedly set the girl ablaze while urging her to confess her involvement in witchcraft for which she was accused.

The suspect was said to have lured the girl to his house where he allegedly forced the girl to confess to being a witch.
