S/Africa starts of with Buhari on clean slate, to return $15m arms money



A South African newspaper, The Mail & Guardian, reported on Friday that South Africa had begun to work out the process of returning more than R100-million in Nigerian money that it confiscated last year, or clearing the way to sell arms to the West African country.

The Mail and Guardian through diplomatic sources informed that South Africa has begun talks to work out a process to return the money in an effort to start off on a clean slate with the recently elected government of the Nigerian president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari.

Man Strangled Girlfriend After She Complained About Him Bed Wetting

A man strangled his lover after she complained about him wetting the bed, a court heard recently.
Phillip Davies, 26, was staying the night with 25-year-old Keelie Challoner when he accidentally wet the bed.
She woke up and complained to Davies about the mess, before telling him to throw the soiled mattress out of the house, at which point an embarrassed Davies started throttling her.
The court heard how he ‘squeezed his hands tightly around her throat’, causing her to fear for her life.

The Central Bank of Nigeria on Thursday expressed deep concerns about the growing amount of Non-Performing Loans in the books of Deposit Money Banks and said it would publish the names of chronic debtors.

The Director, Banking Supervision, CBN, Mrs. Tokunbo Martins, who stated this at a press briefing after the 321st meeting of the Bankers’ Committee in Lagos, said the central bank, in collaboration with the committee, had also decided to stop the serial debtors from buying foreign currencies at the official interbank foreign exchange market.

Soldiers and federal agents arrested nine people after discovering a tunnel hidden behind a wardrobe in a house in Tijuana that emerged in California.

Polls: Police deploys 18000 officers in Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara

A maid, Esther Aniefiok, a 23-year-old indigene of Akwa Ibom State, has allegedly stolen valuables estimated at N4m belonging to her boss, identified simply as Mrs. Abiola.

Abiola, who lives in the Ifako area of Lagos, told our correspondent she employed Aniefiok on March 30 through an agent, Anthony Akpan, and she agreed to be paying her N18,000 per month.

She said the suspect was well-behaved and never showed any evil trait, until she broke into her room on April 6.

President-elect Muhammadu Buhari yesterday vowed to make judicious use of the nation’s resources, declaring that he will neither embezzle nor allow anyone to embezzle the country’s resources.

Impeachment notice on Fayose valid – Falana

A Lagos-based lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), has advised the Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose, to take the impeachment notice served on him by the 19 All Progressives Congress members of the state House of Assembly seriously, saying the notice is valid before the law.

Citing sections 91, 96 and 188 of the country’s constitution, Falana explained that what was required to serve an impeachment notice was one-third of the members of the assembly, noting that the 19 members that signed the notice were more than the one-third of the total legislators required by the constitution.

Korede was a special guest at the three services of the Lekki branch of the dynamic church under the leadership of its youthful shepherd, Pastor Bolaji Idowu.But Pastor Fabunmi is not thrilled by the artiste’s invitation to perform on a church alter. He quoted James 4:4, “
Friendship with the world is enmity to God? Whosoever therefore will be friend of the world is enemy of God.”
“Korede Bello is a young man I love personally, and have nothing against him. But it’s written here, that when we chose the way of the world, we have clearly chosen our paths; becoming an enemy of God. Please, there must be a clearly defined boundaries of who sings, and /or ministers in churches. Some of the questions that comes to mind are; is he born again? Sanctified with the spirit of God and baptized in the Holy Spirit,” he said....

IGP Reacts To Oba Akinolu’s Comments On Igbos

Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba has said according to his findings the Oba of Lagos did not make the threat credited to him because the Oba has denied the allegation levelled against him. The IGP made the statement while responding to questions concerning the Oba’s alleged threat. Hear him;

“On the issue of Oba of Lagos making a statement about who the electorate should vote for in the governorship election, I must tell you I saw it in the media and I tried all my best to verify whether that statement was made and, so far, what I have been able to gather is the fact that the Oba himself denied it. And if the Oba denied it, who am I to say that he didn't make it.

However, if for any reason that becomes a subject of further efforts to confirm if he did it or not, I think we will leave that to the future. But for now, this is what I have.” he said.
