Choi: Woman ‘panel beats’ police officer in bid to block him from arresting her son

A TAFARA woman landed in the dock over the weekend after she allegedly assaulted a police officer who was arresting her son for assaulting his father.

Spelile Jack, 55, was not asked to plead when she appeared before Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda, who remanded her in custody, to today.

Allegations are that on January 20, Jack was at her house in New Tafara when the police arrived with the intention of arresting her son, Masimba, for assaulting his father.

Jack is alleged to have turned violent and started wrestling with the police, obstructing them from performing their duties, and handcuffing her son.

Police officers called for backup and reinforcements helped to arrest Masimba.

Jack allegedly assaulted Govha, who was dressed in police uniform, and had identified himself as a police officer.

Meanwhile, Masimba appeared before the same court accused of assaulting his father, Leonard Jack.

It is the State’s case that Leonard confronted his son after noticing some of his tools were missing.

Masimba became violent and struck his father with a hoe on his right arm and shoulder.

He sustained serious injuries.

Ruvimbo Matyatya appeared for the State.
