A Toddler Will Accept His Mother’s Diploma After She Was Gunned Down A Week Before Graduation

In Memphis, Tennessee, Myneshia Johnson, 18, a student athlete and future college student, was shot and killed days before she was set to graduate from high school. Her family is saddened and in disbelief.
Johnson’s mother, Terry Johnson, spoke with Memphis news station, Fox 19, about her daughter’s tragic death.

“She loves basketball, volleyball, dancing, singing,” Johnson’s mother said. “She can’t even walk the aisle. God it’s unreal.”

Despite having a son at a young age, Myneshia was determined to succeed and attend college. Staff members were so impressed by her drive that they even watched her son 1-year-old son Kaylen while she attended classes.

“She’s that kind of kid who had an impact on everyone. Her spirit will be there and forever live on in the Class of 2016.”

Johnson was shot Sunday morning after a shooter fired in the crowd. Two others were shot and Myneshia was the only one who suffered fatal wounds.

Her mother claims that no one offered to help Myneshia. She died on the scene.

Witnesses say that a man in a Nissan Maxima smiled at the crowd and then opened fire. Police officers observed a Nissan Maxima speeding from the scene.

Kwasi Corbin, 19, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder, and employment of a firearm during a dangerous felony.

Police said when they arrested Corbin, he had an assault rifle in the car. He admitted to shooting the rifle into a crowd of people.

While Johnson won’t be there to accept her diploma, her 1 year-old son will accept it on her behalf.
