In spite of criticism that trailed his eight year reign, governor of Cross River, Senator Liyel Imoke said he did his best for the state. Speaking at the inauguration of his successor Prof. Ben Ayade in Calabar, Senator Imoke disclosed that he left Cross River better than he met it.
The former governor however noted that he would have ‘performed’ better but for the enormous challenges the state faced during his tenure. Senator Imoke however urged his successor to sustain some of the ‘legacies’ he left behind. His successor, Prof. Ben Ayade who acknowledged the enormous challenge before him, solicited the support of the people of Cross River in achieving his plans for the state.
According to him, “we have come to that bend in the river where we must all rise to our full height to envision and carve out a better future for ourselves and prosperity.’ Prof. Ayade assured the people of Cross River that ‘we shall bring a new vista of hope by expanding the means of production, increasing access to capital and catalyzing our value chain.’ The Imoke administration has been thoroughly criticised by Cross Riverians, with the former governor accused of embarking on white elephant projects while the people wallow in abject poverty.
