In a bid to provide succour to rape victims, Miss Nigeria, Ezinne Akudo, has opened a centre to manage them through the period of their trauma.

The centre, called Rape Crisis Center, would be managed by the Eight Foundation located at the Lekki area of Lagos. The foundation is owned by Akudo.

The beauty queen said the foundation, which was founded in 2o14, had plans to provide help, hope and healing to those affected by sexual violence.

She said, “With the support of the Lagos State Office of the Public Defender, the Domestic and Sexual Violence response team and the Mirabel Center, rape victims will be counseled, have free access to health care and legal services.”

Akudo added that the victims, who did not have any means to transport themselves to the center, would be conveyed for free by Easy Taxi, a partner of the initiative.

“We live in a world where women are abused daily and are unable to speak up.

“One out of four women experience some form of sexual violence in their lifetime. This crime can take place at anytime and can happen to anyone regardless of tribe, religion or social class,” she added.

She explained that services in the centre were geared towards catering to female survivors, adding that any male who suffered any form of sexual abuse or rape would also be attended to if he reported to the center.
