Police have arrested a man after finding an elderly woman suffering fatal head wounds in a leafy Cotswolds village.
Detectives launched a murder investigation after the victim, in her 80s, was found at a home in Chipping Campden high street at 12.30am on Friday.
She later died from her wounds.
A Gloucestershire Police spokesman said the woman’s next of kin and the coroner have been informed of the death.
A man, known to the victim, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody.
He added: “The Major Crime Investigation Team is in the early stages of an investigation and officers are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to make contact with police.
“Those involved in the incident are believed to be known to each other and officers are not currently seeking anyone else in connection with the investigation at this time.”
