Strong winds up to 80 km/hr expected to hit Toronto

Environment Canada has issued a special weather alert for the City of Toronto, warning of strong winds and possible power outages.

The weather agency says strong wind gusts are expected to begin Tuesday afternoon and last into the evening, gusting at a rate of 70 to 80 kilometres an hour.

Environment Canada warns that “gusty winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break,” according an alert issued Tuesday morning. Local power outages are also a possibility, the agency warns.

These strong winds are expected to weaken by midnight.

Environment Canada forecasts that there will be a 60 per cent chance of rain showers or flurries Tuesday afternoon, before dropping below freezing to -1 C this evening.
