Etisalat Doles N7m To Indigenous Software Developers


Etisalat Nigeria has doled out N7 million to two Nigerian software developers, Obi Brown and Chijioke Ezegbo, who emerged winners in the 2015 Etisalat Prize for Innovation competition for developing mobile applications that could run on its network.

Brown carted home N5 million in the most innovative product/service category. His start-up, StudyLabs developed Exammate 3.5, a complete interactive application for Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and post UTME computer based-text (CBT) examination to help students solve practical subjects.

On the other hand, Ezegbo went home with N2 million in the most innovative idea category. His start-up company DTMD developed a mobile interactive app that helps road users monitor traffic and find alternative routes using local dialects in the ever-busy Lagos roads.

Funke Opeke, CEO of Main One Cable Company who was a member of the board of innovators said the app would help Nigeria leapfrog into the digital economy, correct ills of the society as well as position students and commuters to be patriotic citizens contributing their own quota to growth and knowledge economy.

Director of digital business, Etisalat Nigeria, Adia Sohwo, said the company helps grow Nigeria’s innovation industry through the sponsorship of the Etisalat Innovation prize by giving software developers opportunity to develop apps.
