This is so heartbreaking. A plane that was being used in production on Tom Cruise‘s new film,Mena, crashed in Colombia on Sept. 11. Two crew members were killed, while one person was left injured. Tom, who just wrapped a scene prior to the tragedy, is alive, a source close to the 53-year-old actor confirmed to HollywoodLife.com.

“Tom is fine. A plane used on the shoot crashed and people tragically died. It was right after Tom wrapped his scene — he wasn’t in the plane,” the source tells HollywoodLife.com.

The twin-engine Aerostar allegedly ran into bad weather after taking off from a small town near Medellin, USA Today reports. The Civil Aviation Authority identified the three people aboard the plane at the time of the crash — pilot and actor Alan David Purwin, pilot Jimmy Lee Garland, and Colombian native Carlos Berl — according to el Colombiano newspaper. At this time, it’s not clear which of the three were killed.

Mena, which will be released on Jan. 6, 2017, is about ” a pilot [who] lands work for the CIA and as a drug runner in the south during the 1980s,” according to IMDb.

The story, which was reported by HollywoodLife.com‘s sister site Deadline, is developing…

Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of those who died in the plane crash. This is truly heartbreaking.
