MASSOB Unveils Plan To Celebrate 16th Anniversary Amid Police Ban

The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), has said that it will celebrate its 16th anniversary of its campaign to revive the failed republic of Biafra. It said over the past 16 years it was brutalized and suppressed by agents of the federal government.

Addressing journalists in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, MASSOB administrator of Ikwuano region, Mr. Davidson Ohaegbu, said the programme of events would include thanksgiving service in different churches in the state to show appreciation to God for protecting members of the group from “annihilation by successive governments and their agents”.

He further said that the group will organise non-violent rallies in different parts of the state, adding that the organisation will not be deterred by threats from the Nigeria Police Force.

“There is every need to celebrate 16 years of brutalisation, 16 years of imprisonment, 16 years of all sorts of intimidation and harassment. God has been so kind to us, and has sustained the struggle, and that is why we will be going to all the churches to give thanks to God because it has not been an easy struggle”, said Ohaegbu.

He maintained that the celebration will go ahead despite the warning by the State Police Command against going ahead with the celebration.

“The police are free to carry out the order of those who sent them, while MASSOB will also go ahead to carry out its right of self determination which the struggle represents”, he further said.

The press briefing was attended by Mr. Solution Edward, MASSOB administrator for Umuahia South region.
