‘Fake Doctor To Refund 9 Years Entitlements Over Impersonation’

The federal ministry of health has disclosed it was currently computing all salaries and allowances which accrued to the impersonator, Martins Okpeh Ugwu, during what it described as his mischievous sojourn in the ministry, for full retrieval by the relevant law enforcement agencies.

Speaking to newsmen yesterday at the ministry, the permanent secretary, of the ministry, Mr Linus Awute, said, “The fake doctor continued his deceit and practised as a medical doctor and collected salaries from the ministry until the lid was blown off his scheme.”

The long arm of the law caught up with the 44- year old secondary school certificate holder, who, for nine years, had been parading himself as a medical doctor and even rose to become the chairman of a branch of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).

Ugwu, an indigene of Ogbadibo local government of Benue State and father of five children, stole copies of the medical and academic credentials of his childhood friend, Dr George Davidson, a medical doctor practising in Jos and used it to secure employment in the ministry.

According to Awute, the impostor was a belligerent staff of the ministry who often harassed heads of agencies under the federal ministry of health.

He stated that it was the Federal Civil Service Commission who recruited Ugwu as was the mandate of the commission to employ and deploy staff to any ministry it deems fit.

The permanent secretary, who commended the commission, said it was the same commission which blew the lid open with the disclosure that Ugwu was an impostor.

According to him, Ugwu was not operating alone as the staff of the ministry including him, had been getting threatening SMS messages from people over his issue.
