Nigerian Breweries inaugurates N18bn Aba Brewery

The Nigerian Breweries Plc has inaugurated the expanded Aba Brewery in Aba, Abia State. The expansion gulped N18bn.

Present at the ceremony were the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Olusegun Aganga, who represented President Goodluck Jonathan, and the Governor of Abia State, Chief Theodore Orji.

Others were members of the House of Representatives representing Aba North and South, Mr. Uzor Azubuike; Secretary to the State Government, commissioners, service chiefs, traditional rulers and key distributors.

In a message, Jonathan, lauded NBC’s commitment to the economic development of Nigeria. He added that it was a clear indication that Nigeria was safe for business.

In his remarks, Orji stated that the project showed a perfect partnership between the government and private investors owing to the tangible achievement of his administration in fighting insecurity in the state.

The Chairman of the company, Chief Kola Jamodu, stated that the expansion project reflected the company’s bold confidence, not only in Abia State and the entire Eastern Nigeria but in Nigeria as an investment destination.

“Our socio-economic impact report shows that in 2013 alone, the value added by Nigerian Breweries to the Nigerian economy stood at N292 billion or 0.4 per cent of GDP. N98bn or 0.1per cent of GDP out of this stood as direct support. Our company supported 279,000 jobs directly and indirectly.

The NB Plc, Managing Director, Mr. Nicolaas Vervelde, pointed out that the inauguration was an opportunity to showcase the company’s commitment to socio-economic development of Nigeria.
