100,000 New Cases Of Cancer Are Recorded In Nigeria Yearly

A professor of radiotherapy and Oncology with the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Akoka, Aderemi Ajekigbe who delivered the 21st Inaugural Lecture of the university titled, ‘Cancer: The Unwanted Guest That May Visit’, has said Nigeria records 100,000 new cases of cancer annually.

Aderemi stated some reasons why cancer is increasing at an alarming rate in Nigeria, saying it is due to the poor state of health facilities, poor funding of cancer care, late diagnosis and detection of the deadly disease in the country.


He also stated that Nigeria has about two million recorded cases of cancer.
