property worth millions of naira destroyed in Omoku, the headquarters of Ogba/ Egbema/Ndoni Local Government of Rivers State.
Among the victims was a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the area, whose identity was yet to be known as at press time.
The incident occurred on Friday night, and it was further gathered that many people had fled the community, following sporadic shootings by armed youths.
A source in the area told Sunday Sun that the cause of the incident was traceable to the activities of the youths during their ongoing Nchaka annual festival.
Though the source could not give the exact cause of the disturbances, she attributed it to a clash between rival cult groups.
According to eyewitnesses, gunmen numbering about 10 invaded the community at the wee hours of Friday and moved from house to house, ordered occupants out of their houses and shot them.
The Caretaker Committee Chairman of the local government area, Victor Ahianmadu, confirmed the incident to journalists.
He said more than five persons including a chieftain of APC, were killed by the gunmen.
Ahianmadu called on the residents of the community that fled the area following the invasion, to return to their houses, as security operatives had taken over the community.
He called on the police to track down those behind the dastardly act and prosecute them.
